Stock MBZ CD Player:

I am looking for a stock MBZ CD player to install in my 1978 300SD. It currently has a Honda AM/FM cassette, so I think it will accept just about any of the MBZ CD units. Any ideas on where to find a good one with the codes????

I have bought a bunch from PNP that don't work, so I would like to find a known-good one.

Thanks for your thoughts....Robert

Are you looking for an in-dash unit or a trunk CD changer that connects to the factory head-unit?

Sorry...just a factory in-dash AM/FM/CD unit. Nothing special....

The ultimate one to have would be the latest Becker Mexico radio, with built in navigation and Bluetooth audio (so you could stream Pandora from your phone, for example)

http://www.classicdriver.com/uk/magazine/3300.asp?id=12924

Sadly they don't make it anymore, but its appearance is almost exactly like what your W116 would have left the factory with.

There is the Becker BE860, which has an in dash CD player, but they're rarer then hen's teeth. Nakamichi also made a very nice looking single din CD headunit, but they're also pricey. I'm not aware of any single DIN Mercedes branded CD payers, but I doubt one would look correct in the dash anyway. Looking at some of the offerings from Blaupunkt most look adorned with blue lights and flashy buttons... not fitting for your car IMO. There was this euro market radio with CD and am/fm/short wave, but even in a W126 it looks a bit out of place:

How close to the factory look are you wanting to get?

Hmm, I think I was wrong about the Mexico being out of production, it's still listed on Becker's website:

Or if you wanted a Chinese Replacement Auto Part grade radio, there's this:

Hmmmm.....I am trying to recall the 201 I worked on a few months ago, which had a MBZ in dash AM/FM/CD (I thought???) that was the same size as the Honda AM/FM/Cassette that I currently have in my 116.

Or, perhaps it was a AM/FM and you have to wire up a CD changer in the boot???

Bluetooth????? I got one for my birthday, but my hearing is so badly damaged from the Navy
that I can't hear anything on it if there is ANY noise around me....

I run an application on my smartphone called Pandora. I'd check it out, you can set it up to play the types of music you like. My phone is able to send that audio to the radio via blueotooth... bluetooth is not just for those in ear headsets.

Hmmmm.....Guess I will hit PNP when the floodwaters subside. They have a bunch of 201 cars. Hopefully I can get a good radio out of one. I hate looking down and seeing HONDA when I drive...

Hmmmmm.....you know, a MP3 hookup would negate the need for a CD changer....:-)
