Low mileage 300SD

A very low mileage 300SD on eBay. What is this car really worth?

well, to the seller it's worth 38K because this car has been listed and listed and listed. bidding gets up close to 30K, but keeps failing to close.
if it had perfect conditon leather, and a few other options, I might agree with the seller. either way it's a great find.
so, I guess unless there is some shill bidding, it's REALLY worth 28K... cause that's the highest the bidding I've seen is...

Wow....just wow. One of the cleanest I have ever seen. Hard to imagine the engine compartment looking like that! That car has driven not even 400 miles a year.....

I wonder how much collector appeal there is in something like this? I would be worried about if the low mileage has damaged engine seals and other rubber parts from lack of movement? I suppose it all depends on how the car has been stored. Either way it is a beautiful example. What did these sell for new?

Only if it had ZERO to maybe 50 miles on it.

And nowhere near what the seller wants.

I'm not crazy about the exterior paint color, or the configuration of the interior MB Tex.

My '83 300SD was Silver Blue with the Royal Blue leather interior. Been there, done that with my 300SD and 305K miles.

Nice cars, I enjoyed the heck out of mine I paid $11,950 for with 93K miles on it 20 years ago, so, not really interested in an SD that old over $5K in any condition, even if I were in the market personally.

My next $30K+ used car would be a 2008 or 2009 E320 Bluetec anyway, if I were spending that much money.

Some one with too much money & nothing to do with it will buy it. I wonder if at times these guys put up a car like this at a price that is some what high to make some of their other cars look better value.
The new member English Bulldog got a nice low mileage CD for a fraction of this ones price.
This car has had a lot of detailing done, my 80 300D didnt look that clean under the hood at 10k miles. It doesnt look as thought the motor has been ever warmed up properly.

Thumbs up

At the risk of getting jeered at, when I saw the engine compartment of the above car - it was the closest picture in likeness of cleanliness to my '83 300SD that I sold when 16 years of age in 1999, and 305K miles on it. Mine wasn't quite as clean, especially the mock firewall, but very close. It (to me) is easy to keep an engine compartment clean in Texas, with no snow, ice, etc.

I just keep a clean car, even under the hood, but it is easier when it is garaged 100% of the time it is not on the road.

I'll take a picture one of these days and post my 12 year old '99 ETD's with 123K miles engine compartment with the bonnet (hood) open @ 90* degrees, and show you what a pretty engine compartment is all about when garaged, with one-owner care.

Very nice car. Lack of motion seal swell and other issues IMO could be overlooked in a car of this quality, if there is true surity that it is what is claimed.

I think that one could do a lot of bodywork and detailing for the 30kish type money they may have in the car.

My wife doesnt like SDs just 123s... bummer as it would be a pretty car to drive.

oh, I sincerely doubt the sellers have anywhere NEAR what they are asking in the car. that's why they will keep relisting it until they get what they want. nothing ventured nothing gained. they likely have less than 5K in it.

An 83 with that mileage would be great for the cosmetics but leaving it sit is morally wrong and not good for the car either. I have the original window sticker
for my Dad's ( now mine) 85 300Sd loaded except for heated seats and it was priced at $41,365 +/- ( I have it in a file at home) I know the old adage that it is worth what someone is willing to pay for it but come on !!!! There was a thread a few months back from someone in California looking to buy a very clean
early 80's 300SD previously owned by and MB Technician. I think think they were asking $10-15,000. for it and had documented mileage around 75k. They had service records that showed the last service had been I believe over 7 years ago. The car had almost zero miles on it during that time. Long story short
my 85 sat off and on for the last 7 years before I got it ( it was stored in a non heated nor cooled garage) and although it was in great shape for 187k miles
it needed work and still does. I have put close to a $1,000. into it to date.
If this car were going to be a daily driver maybe $15,000-20,000 but beyond that the numbers do not add up. If it is going to be a garage queen it still does not make sense ( wait let me check last weeks lottery numbers) since although I love my Diesel there are more interesting rides out there.

Over time I have noticed this seller has put up many cars with excessive reserves. What they eventually sell for is beyond me. Many of them may find homes eventually with individuals where 50k is just pocket change. For perhaps five percent of our society this is probably true. About the same as the average guy spending a hundred dollars.

Since apparently the seller may not have taken 28k already who knows. Shill bidding is always a possibility to get up there initially as well. I just love the reserve system as the seller can shill bid it never getting caught with the fees unless he accidently goes over the reserve. We also know that is not going to happen.

I am pretty sure ebay could not care less about the practice.

This SD is not the same car you posted in above link. It is a 84 300CD with 35,780 miles and reserve was not met. closet @ $26,102.

This SD is the same color as mine. love that color, now if it had black interior. that would be the perfect color combination.

If the tires are original, it due for 5 new tires. along with other rubber parts like hoses and belts.

So that is what a new engine looked like? I have been looking for a false firewall that is not oil soaked. I always wondered if the gassers were the same.

That is a steep price for it, now try to explain to the AAA salesman what you paid for it, and want to insure it for.

since Iam winning the $290M Mega lottery in a few days, I will post my new 83SD, and you can call me any sort of name calling you want, and I won`t be offended .

You'd insure it with a classics insurance company, and would probably have to avoid driving it more then 500ish miles a year....and it would need to be in a protected garage.
