Looking at a 1983 240d "as is" condition, what is the car worth (range)?
Hey all. I am looking at a 1983 240d with 283,000 on an unconfirmed odometer (as to whether it works). It supposedly had a fuse box "fire" and the engine ran up until this happened. Interior and exterior is in great condition - navy blue - no rust/palomino with lightly cracked dash. Not sure on what works and what does not. Rubber is at 50 percent. In "as is" condition, what is the car worth (range) so I know where to start for an offer? I am also looking at some others, so I would like something to compare to.

pics?
not running? a fire? $200.00 rust free? $600.00 running well, shifting well, 2K and up. |
Sorry, John. I know its quite an obscure question. It was getting dark last evening. I was thinking on the $600-$750 level max, based on what I saw. So it sounds like I am in the ballpark. The body is really in beautiful shape. but I could not drive it, so transmission and accessories are still out there.

if you get it cheap and need a wiring harness or fusebox lemme know.
|
Cool. I'll do that. Still need to speak with owner.

I payed $300 for a burned out one, good engine and good rust free body parts, the fire totally trashed the interior. I would offer the guy 4 or 500 and see what he says. Its not worth anything to most people but you could fix that one up, a rust free body is hard to come by. Good Luck

I am finding more info on it tomorrow. The interior is near perfect, minus the rear package tray, (1st aid kit tray missing and rear speakers gone) - easy remedy though. I will get some pics of the affected areas, as well. Thanks for changing the heading of this thread, John...sorry, my bad.:) I am not usually that ambiguous.

X3, unless it's a stick or 5 speed
|
um, yeah. if it's a 5 speed, just send me the address. it's not worth your trouble.
|
Haha...ummm yeah. 5 speed = the holy grail of 123's...

I could use a second one. |
Are you counting reverse as 1 speed?

Stick or automatic?
To most familiar with these cars, a 240D stick (even a 4-speed) is worth considerably more than one with an automatic. |
Your market is different than here, but over 39 months FYI I've bought three W123 fixers each for less than $500, and all were 617A (turbo fives, all ended up as drivers and sold).
I'm not sure what one would expect for less than $1k. A rusty Yugo with a seized throwout bearing? If you want it, ensure your offer is sufficient to keep it out of the crusher--probably $300 at our local scrap price. YMMV. A 240D has about -$5k value here. YMMV. |
