OM606 is a manual transmission swap difficult?

I presume they only came in Auto? the 3l td.

Is a manual swap hard?

What would you use for a flywheel?
Electronics may not be happy.

I think OM606.964 came in the G-wagen. Available with a manual tranny. I also believe that the OM603 flywheel will work on the 606.

No IDI turbodiesel came from MB with a manual. First manuals were CDI engines in the C class.

There's a few manual 606-powered cars about in the UK, probably a fair few more in mainland Europe. I've driven one, and thought 'what's the point?'; it's not a nice 'box, and especially in the 124 chassis with foot-operated parking brake, a pain in the arse to drive.

Please put your location in your signature. There are all sorts of variants in other parts of the world !! By not having your location up there for all to see it is just a total PITA.
Just do it !!!!!!

probalby would have to go to a standalone megasquirt system just to bypass the electronics part..once you figured out what tranny and parts to use. it would be nice to have a t56 in my diesel.

Yes, it will fit and it will drive using the set up from a 201 or a 124. HOWEVER, need to secure a flywheel from europe , or weld on some tabs on the donor for the crank sensor to read.

You will always get the "check engine electronics" message at start up since the 12 pin auto tranny wiring is disconnected. Not a big deal.

As a previous post said, it is not exciting to drive as even the best of these trannies was blah ( I think my semi is smoother shifting), but it is reliable now and no worries of "limp home mode".

Klaus

EDIT: Just noticed you are in UK. Should be plenty of manual tranny Benzes all over the place. Don't know that I would bother with the swap. We Yanks are quite jealous of your selection of fine diesels!! Need to get out a welder to build what we want here...

Yeah im gonna buy an E300 TD within the next few weeks. I've been told a few times the manuals are like stirring porridge lol, the swap might not even happen if i like the auto box

And if your fuel was £1.30 / litre, you would have a wider diesel selection too haha

Is the 606 tach pickup different than the 603? I am very happy with my manual trans swap but on the 603 and 617. Its not for people who enjoy a smooth ride (dual mass is smoother).

606 reads off the flywheel. 603 is on the crank pulley (if I remember correctly). The 606 needs the input from the crank sensor in order to run, unfortunately, or things could be much simpler!

Maybe one day I will spring for a dual mass unit from across the pond, but for now it is adequate if not silky.
