Doesn't that limit your mileage though?


EDIT: I was thinking of classic car registration, at least here in Texas my mustang's registration is good for 5 years, no inspection, but I can't drive it much.....or I'm not suppsed to.:cool:

My classic car policy limits me to 6000 miles a year which I paid a little extra for. 3000 miles was the default. It does not effect me because the car is not my daily driver.

Certain ones do not--like chubb, I can tell you of the place in cowtown who agencys for this kind of policy. It just cannot be your daily driver.

That might get me most of the way through January.

And for those with non functioning odometers.......

I just purchased classic car insurance for my 67 VW Beetle. I had to take 12 pictures of the car, stated that it was worth $8000, took a picture of the odometer, and gave my agent $239.00. It is now covered with liability insurance, comp and collision with a limit of 5000 miles per year up to a value of $8000. Pretty sweet!

I have Hagerty Ins on my baby (67 Camaro RS). Must be in secured garage, limited miles (no Problem) and Guaranteed replacement cost coverage. If it's totaled or disappears they just stroke a check; no back and forth game to play. I pay $161/yr with $26K "Agreed Value" coverage. Not bad I think....

Like 1stbenznc, I have Hagerty for my 1948 Dodge pickup, $157/yr., limited mileage, $18K coverage.

When I first insured, I had just restored it, 1995. The truck was originally purchased by a friend of my Dad's in Baton Rouge. I had trailered it out to CA in parts in 1988. Since everyone connected with the thing was getting old, and passing away, I decided to drive it back in 1996. Only my Dad was available to see and ride in it. It was a 5,500 mile trip, an adventure. Hagerty folks were not happy with the idea, but I told them to adjust the rate - they said go ahead, and did not charge a higher rate!

I've had no claims.

BTW, the trip was 4 days one way, 8 total, not counting time in Baton Rouge. One day, on the I-10 in west TX and NM, I counted, at 65mph, I passed 10 vehicles the whole day. Everything else was passing me. The truck is all stock except a lower rear end ratio to get speed, and very tricky at 65. Brakes are horrible, even with them being new! So are tube, nylon ply (new from Korea) tires - just so horrible.

We have it good with our cars. Ron

do all these companies require that you also show proof of ownership of another vehicle, which is your daily driver? the one I tried here in the NE did.

With my geico policy, it's about that price to add a second vehicle I think so it wouldn't make much difference to insure the merc as a classic if I have to keep the other vehicle up as well.

Collector plates
 

We have something similar here in BC. Collector plates can be had for any vehicle more than 25 yrs old or 15yrs with limited production of less than 1500 units produced worldwide in that model year. You have to submit 10 pics , they are fussy about original equipment things like stereos etc. Certain safety related upgrades like lights, brakes and seatbelts are allowed. There is no limit to the mileage you can put on the vehicle but you cannot drive it to work or school. You also have to have another vehicle with regular insurance on it. Cost is about 25% of regular insurance. I have several collector plated motorcycles and am working on my first collector car. Next year both my 87's qualify. You can also get a multi-vehicle collector plate if you have 3 or more same type collector qualified vehicles, you just pay for the most expensive one. If you or your spouse are retired and the other vehicle is used for pleasure only it is a hell of a deal if you don't mind driving an older vehicle. They have also recently allowed Hotrods older than 1956 if memory serves to be collector plate eligible. Most of this is because of the lobbying of the vintage and hotrod clubs. Cheers Dan

I’ve got my classic car insurance from the same company that does my home and car insurance- The Hartford, though I’ve gone the roundabout way through AARP, as that was getting me a better deal for everything combined. Not too many restrictions so far.
