Chances are if you do not see cracks between the valves on any cylinder with close visual inspection the head will test well. Best of luck.

Cap those injectors and delivery valves, rubber glove fingers if you don't have anything else, getting dirt in there will start new problems.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure everything is covered when I stop by this morning. The guy from snap on said he had the right tool, I'll find out for sure also this morning. If he did the head should be off... if not... If the heads off I'll get pictures etc of it.

Take it, I checked and the snap on guy had the right tool, so we should be good. My diesel guy had a on road emergency (he gets called out to do all the repairs on the bigger rigs when they break down around here) so, he didn't have a chance to pull it yet. maybe tonight. For what he's charging me to do the job, he can take all the time he likes...

Well....

The head is cracked in 3 places. 1, 3 and 4. 4 shows signs of water steaming in the piston. So I need a new head.

Might want to see if this is still available - if so, it's a bargain:

603 head #17 - injectors - injector lines

I looked at that, believe it is a "reman" #14.

ya, it's a reman 14... If I'm going to spend the money I would rather avoid another 14....

there is a reman 16 on ebay... 800 bucks... and has a warranty..

I dropped him a note about it. if it's complete, I'll pick it up and get it here.

Anyone know what the part number for the plastic guide that fits in the front of the head, I believe it has something to do with the timing chain? (slide rail?) Also those 2 Slide rail bolts, mangled mine up pretty good trying to get them out....
