Audiovox CCS 100
My cruise works, but only intermittently. Peter from GDL thinks it's the amp. I can buy a remanufactured unit on Ebay for $75. The Audiovox is about $100
I read the write up Mayday Mike did about the install on a 126. I like that he was able to use the stock cruise switch. Has anyone installed this unit on a 124? Attaching the new unit to the throttle looks like it may be more difficult.

I have it on my W126 and it works beautifully.....I'd recommend it....though as you said attaching to the throttle will require more creativity.

And remember, if you stick with the OEM system, your bad amp could be caused by a bad actuator....that was the case with one of mine.

YES! Works Great. See this link: The Official Audiovox CCS-100 Install Thread
Looks like this may be the link you're talking about. Post 27: The Official Audiovox CCS-100 Install Thread is my install in my W124. Very happy with the install. Works great. Clean, easy, reliable. What more can you ask for. No problem attaching to the throttle at all. Very easy. I removed the cruise amp in my install and used that area to mount the bracket to hold the cable. (See pictures for a better explanation) I picked up an dead amp from a member to use the connector for a plug and go install. It works well. I'm even using the VSS from the vehicle so I didn't need to use the one in the kit. Very clean. There is space in the firewall to run the wires under the dash. The stalk works a little bit differently. Up is Resume/Accel, Down is Set/Decel, Off/Off, and pull toward you is now a tap on the brake/disengage, but can be resumed.

It's really best to replace them both at once; I did that a few years ago and it works perfectly.

It sucks but I'm glad I wasnt the only one.. though my switch someone broke too. Probably in frustration to get it to work in the first place.

I had not seen your installation. It's well done. The photos are great. I am tempted to go with this unit vs spending the money to debug the actuator and/or the amp. I know a bad actuator can cook a good amplifier. At the end of the day, it's not a great system. My throttle cable runs under the intake manifold, but the mounting points available to you should be similar to mine. I need to compare your photos with my engine compartment.

the bracket I used comes in the kit with the cruise unit. I cut/bent it to fit my needs. Used mounting bolts that came from the original cruise actuator mount. there was a bolt available to mount the new unit already available. (Again see pictures) Kit has plenty of wire available to run to under the dash. It even has the wire wrap to make it look like a clean install. There is an access behind the brake booster that you'll run the wires through. Removing the access panel under the dash to get to the amp and such took a little time. Used a hobby soldering iron to make the connections to the connector that plugs into the stock system. You can remove your old amp take it apart and use the plug connector. All the contacts Power/Ground/VSS/Brake and inputs for the stock controller are available there. You'll use the same fuse as the original setup. It's pretty nice all and all. I think in the original link I listed the wire color and pins they go to.

judging from the photos of bobo's installation the '92 diesel throttle linkage is way different from my '87, it will be a lot more difficult to attach the pull cable to the '87 linkage, the arms and cable are all buried under the intake. on an '87 it's even difficult to actuate the throttle with your fingers, it's so far underneath everything.
i also checked out ebay and looks like the units are going for big dough these days. close to 300 bucks.

I took a good look at my engine compartment and throttle cable location. I think I can use the kit bracket or fab one that will work on the throttle. But, I don't have as much mounting room in the vacinity of the ABS unit as there is on a 92. How big is the servo unit? It looks like it's about 4" in diameter and about 6" long.
And, it's true, the price has gone up to about $185. I am going to try another used amp, first one did not work, before I go for this unit. Thanks.

that sounds about right. 4 X 6 inches. What your unit doing? Mine surged on declines. Not sure if it was the amp or actuator. Drove me crazy. I got my unit on ebay for $100 or so. It was the cheapest option. If you're interested in my amp we can work something out. PM me.

Mine will set, accel, decel and shut off. But it will only hold speed for 2 to 10 minutes. Then it drops out or it mimics running out of fuel until I shut it off.
I bought a replacement amp from a forum member, but it did not work at all. He is sending me another one. I sent an email to Peter at GDL and described the symptoms. Peter was pretty sure that since the actuator worked properly when it was on, that the problem was with the amp. He suggested I try another one. If the replacement amp does not work. I am done and will spend the $185 for the Audiovox unit. When you soldered the kit wires to the terminal strip in the old amp, did you do that so you didn't have to splice wires into your stock wiring harness?

I soldered into the amp connector because all the signals you need are there (Power, ground, VSS, stalk controls, and brake signal) no need to run additional wiring, looks cleaner and is pretty easy overall.
