om617 parts

When I purchased my 83 300D nearly two years ago I got a spare om617 with the deal. I have no idea if the engine could run but it's missing some things (injectors, some glow plugs, fuel pump, etc.) so it would take some work and $$ just to try and run it. It is visually in VERY poor condition and I seriously doubt it would run well if at all just based on its appearance. Based on that plus the fact that I have a parts car with a good engine in the driveway means that I will not be trying to get this engine running. I need to get rid of this thing (it's in my driveway under a tarp) but before I just scrapped the whole thing I figured it may be worth pulling off stuff that I may need/want in the future for my 83 300D (or my dream project of swapping an OM617 into a Scout). I've attached some photos of the engine. Let me know what you think is worthwhile to keep and what should just be scrapped. Photos of the engine are below. Thanks for any input you can give.

Does the cruise control work on your cars? Do they have the black- the proper- oil cap? A spare IP may sell on Ebay- maybe not.

Old Diesels can look really ugly and still be very sound..
I would at least hook up a good big charged battery and check the compression readings..
be sure to disconnect the injection lines first.. do not want to have it start in an unstable situation..
that is about the best way to determine the bottom line on condition...
Someone might want it complete.....

I will yank the cruise off - my dd doesn't have it.
Anyone know of a way to bench test an IP? I would likely sell it if I knew it functioned. Thanks for your input.

Yeah, the diesel in my dd looks pretty darn ugly and it runs fine.
The problem with trying to test this engine is that there are no injectors, no inection lines, missing glow plugs. There is a bunch of crud (looks like sawdust) down in the holes where the injectors were removed. It's ugly.
