heater fan runs for a while then quits

About 8 months ago, I replaced the motor brushes on the climate control fan on my 82 300D, and it has worked like a champ until about 2 weeks ago. Then it kind of slows to an intermittent crawl. After an overnight, the fan will start up with the car, and then after 5 or 10 min's. crawl, then stop.

Is the likely problem that I would need a new motor, or is there a relay somewhere I can check?

Thank you!

Yes, there is a 5 blade, double-contact relay that controls the blower. I have seen them overheat from poor contact/corrosion and cause a similar problem.

Thank you, Doktor Bert! I'm looking in my Haynes manual, and not sure where that is located. In the engine bay, I hope... or is it buried in the dash somewhere?

The relay is incorporated in the CCU. As stated, you should check the amperage draw of the blower or look for shorts in the wiring.

Sure, sure did. It's cold out there, so haven't had a chance to check on the current draw. I did remove the glove box and I do hear a relay clicking behind there. Here's the thing... on closer inspection what I'm finding is that fan motor is getting very sluggish. I can feel the arm of it spinning with a finger and bang on the housing which seems to coax it back to speed.... for a while. So it is either some issue with my spring/brush install of several months ago, or perhaps the motor is wearing out some other part.
