w201 diesel 2.5 misfire

Hello i am new to the forum, have enjoyed the enthusiasm people have expressed about these great cars of ours. I have a few problems with my 190 2.5, i bought it a few months ago after trying to find one for a while.
I have a few concerns with it when accelerating the engine seems to stutter or misfire this some times goes away but not for long, is this the cam shaft ? there is a bit of blue smoke on start up but it does not seem to be using oil. could it be an air leak some where?
I am worried a have bought another shed.
Any advise would be massively apprieciated.

The first thing I would do is change both fuel filters and see if that helps,

I am so worried i have bought a car with a poor engine, but its got lots of power i dont know whats going on! there is also lots of vibration in the drive train. I am not going to give up on this car i love it!

The diesel engine is pretty simple ,if your getting fuel delivery correctly ,plenty of air the compresion of the cylinders is last. The compression of the cylinders is were I would start.Youll want to know if your working with a healthy engine first espeicially since you have some smoking issues.Harbor freight has a compression tester that will get you going in the right direction. The return lines and any other fuel leaks would be your next venture, the small return lines have always been a problem.

Starting in the right place is a good one. Compression check is free so that is a good place. Anything that is intermittent is almost certainly going to be an injection issue barring a sticking valve. Get your injectors pop tested and cleaned and then report back.

Is there any associated sound?
