Please help on W126 sunroof

Has anyone replaced the plastic guides on the side of the sunroof opening? These are the parts that the angles slide into. I do not have any sort of instructions for that and I have broken off a few of thew tabs. Does the whole sunroof frame need to come out to replace these?

what year 126? I've done the ones in a 79 123... should be the same up to around 85/86 when the pop up sunroof came out.
I just slid the sunroof all the way back, and removed the side rails, and then the felts. this let me remove the old worn ones, and put in the new ones. pretty easy really. NOTHING like changing the rear or even the front rubber seals...

I am thinking that they must be different. It almost looks like the guide clips are partially behind the frame. To remove the frame you have to remove the headliner which means the rear seats and all the dazrn panels. WHAT A JOB!!!

I really hope not to have to do all of this.

If you have the non-tilting sunroof, all that is not necessary. Its actually a pretty straightforward job. If you let us know what year car you have and if it has the non-tilting sunroof, we could help a bit better.

Sorry, can't help with that one. I have instructions with photos of how to do the non tilting 123 and 126. Hope you make out OK.

If their the same as the 123 body ,pop off the headliner from the sunroof(pop the front slips then pull down and forward while bending slightly), unbolt the slide cable assembly from the sunroof ,you can now pull back the sunroof half way, unscrew the holding bolts to the sliding arms that ride in the track and attach themselves to the sunroof ,after that you can pull the sunroof out.The track can be serviced now ,the plastic slide pieces ride on the slider arms and usually break apart with age.Light amount of lithium grease after cleaning the tracks makes for a nice smooth finish service.I would also replace the surround seal that makes the sunroof water tight if in bad shape. These are usually held in with small stainless screws ,after that youll be in good shape.
