Arrow What can you tell from the pictures?

Often times people see an ebay or craigs listing and let us all in on the things good and bad that they see in the pictures.

Here is a link to some pictures of a car I am planning to see perhaps this weekend. The owner inherited it from his dad, and said it had sat for about a year. I think that was before he brought it home though, and i it has been sitting there 9 months.

A question he didn't have the answer for, is what is that thing next to the coolant tank. kinda looks like it has springs in it.

A quote from him on the electrical prooblems....

"When I posted the ad, only one marker light would come on when the headlights switch was turned, now everything but the dash lights and high beams work. Before my dad passed way he was saying he had some electrical issues with it but as long as he didn't use ________ button, everything was fine. My memory of which button, isn't so strong. The fan works and does blow air, and the Windows all work."

How many miles? In any case, I would go give it a look. As far as that coil looking thing; that's the blower motor resistor, don't worry, it belongs on the car and is original.

Seems a little steep for 330k, even in the Pacific Northwest. Either way, I'm sure he's willing to deal and, in the grand scheme of things, 333k isn't anything to scare you away from a well-maintained Benz, they can run for a lot longer than that.

That little box of springs its a resistor for the blower motor I believe. All of them have it.

he's DEFINITELY not a liberal! John Gault? are you nuts?

the car likely has heavy blowby, there is a lot of oil residue on the valve cover. the car likely was garaged, the interior has little warping.
I'd like to see what's under the seat cover.
steering wheel is heavily worn, 330K is likely not accurate.

oh yeah... eeeek! RUST. I'd need pics of the underside of the car, lots of pics of the underside...

maybe so, I considered Gault, but biodiesel and bumper stickers carry a heavy weight to the left. And then you know, some people do not understand Rand's philosophy. But also I was just having fun.

I will fix my post.

He is likely a liberal.

FWIW, I was climbing around my SD & discovered rust in the lower part of the doors hidden by the door seal. I never would have seen it unless the doors were open & I was looking from below. Glad I found it before doors need to be replaced. Strangely, only the fronts are affected - primarily the passenger side. I can't account for it as the drains are clear.

Water inside the right fog light (short or blowing fuse?).
Maybe replacement antenna.
Probable R134a A/C conversion (blue cap)
Brake fluid looks clean (a white cap?), but booster looks wet, maybe?
Green coolant, maybe a little low?
Ignition switch looks recessed too far - replaced properly?
Hard to tell, but nuts on shocks and UCAs don't look recently replaced like listed in ad.

Shot in the dark speculation: the bling chrome wheels and the bumper stickers don't jibe with a factory stock head unit. The wiring short with the headlights MIGHT be connected to a bad re-install with the dimmer wire. There are more than a few threads about "mystery" shorts that get traced back to a bad radio install.

Owned by a trucker? Lots of tire and the fender in the pic.
