The E320 wagon with the M104 engine gets the same mileage as the '87 diesel, but has an extra 80hp and burns premium gasoline.
I love the diesel, but otherwise I'd still have my '95, much more refined version of the 124, cheaper, and easier to find in decent condition being 8years newer. Quote:

It's an inner conflict. On the one hand, I really feel that the changes made to the 124 series between '86 and '95 are significant, my '94/'95 cars drove so much better than my '87s, the '91 somewhere in the middle, and all of the added features, added interior upgrades, exterior changes, ... but given a choice between a turbodiesel '87 and a gas '95, ... I have chosen the turbodiesel even with its lower trim and convenience level.
But then it is more of a hobby car than a real daily, ...
