Block heater, oil pan heater will not heat the battery. Cranking amps and duration are much better at room temp than at -10F. Apple to apple this has made the difference for me between a self-contained start and a jumper cable morning. This is why alaskans also use battery heaters.

OP, do you have a blanket around your battery? the pad heaters are good, but when it gets really cold, a blanket around the sides of the battery help contain the heat from the pad in the battery.

My bad. I'll try reading more. We only crack 0F a few days a year if that, I use the poor man's battery heater. I also try to park nose to nose, and make sure the car most likely to start is the one blocking the driveway. If you do intend to insulate the battery, I'd shape the box from a 12-pack and a target bag around the battery and fill the cavity with that 'great stuff' expanding foam in a can. Just be sure that the battery's vent tube is exposed to the air. Cover that with 100 TPI cotton, your choice of color & print, hem it, fold it over and hot glue a mint to it.

I have a block heater, a battery pad heater and a tender charger for the battery all wired to a common plug; I suspect the charger does more to keep the battery warm than the heater pad.

Bottom line is this: Fix what you found to be defective (glow plugs) and see what happens. Changing too many variables can lead to another problem and complicates things. Since you know you have 2 defective GPs replace them.

Change the glow plugs, all of them.
Set your valves. For longer term good, change your fuel filterS
