Love my 2005 E320 CDI
I had an uneventful trip that had all the right ingredients to be eventful.
600 miles from MA to Bangor, ME and back yesteday. - My CDI has no block heater - Outside temp -15F at my house - In-the-garage temp of about 15F - Running homemade BD with about 10% HHO to reduce gelling - Warmup of about 2 minutes so I could make time on the road at 5am. CDI did not miss a beat for the four hour trip, reaching -17F on parts of ME turnpike. Sat for 3 hours at my customer at -5F. Started without incident and made the four hour trip home also without incident. One tank of fuel, and no speeding tickets. It was a good day.

Thanks for posting. The positive comments people are having lately about the 05 and 06 CDI's is getting me closer to pulling the trigger on one of these. The only thing holding me back is not wanting to sell my W210 because I enjoy it so much.

Sounds great! I think the jury's still out on the effects of the HPCR on bio-diesel. Not really sure how bio reacts to having it's molecules squeezed that much.

16k trouble-free miles so far on BD, and HHO absolutely keeps the BD liquid.

I think if I was going to spend the money to have a 2005 Cdi, I'd not be messing with it by running slime through the common rail injection system. As when that breaks its going to cost $$$$$$$$. Many many more $$$ than you would have spent just running diesel.

My savings on making BD over 5 years paid for my CDI. It can blow up and I'm ahead money. I don't plan on blowing it up. Don't fear your engine.

HHO doesn't do anything at all. Period. Its 100% scam and you fell for it.

HHO= home heating oil, not Brown's gas. Properly made BD should be no problem at all, many new engines are approved for B20.

so, in addition to running a fuel untaxed, you are adding untaxed RED dyed heating oil in there too... My tank has been dipped in NC where personal use veg oil fuels are legal untaxed, if I was running any HHO in my tank I'd be facing a serious fine...

CDI Problems
I have a 2006 CDI and have had various problems with the car. First problem happened at 59.9k miles, just before the 60k warranty expired. A cog or gear on the rear axle broke. It is a sensor for the traction control system. Dealer did not want to repair it under warranty as I brought the car in after the odometer tripped 60k. Two weeks of arguing and they covered it. The car has an extended warranty to 100k, but this device was not covered even though the ABS is covered and the ABS light came on. Next problem was the wiring harness for the driver side air bag. SRS warning lite came on. Received a letter 1 month ago on a recall notice and had this fixed. Next was the front right ball joint repair. In addition I had a GP go out at about 65k. Car has a rather soft front end also. This car should have had better front end springs. Both keys have cracks on all the buttons. Not really fond of the electric braking system either. Not really easy to change brake pads and rotors as on a standard hydraulic system. Back seat is rather low and cramped. Other than the above, the car does get good mileage.

have you got any suggestions for ways to pay for roads aside from fuel tax?

If we do get to the point where there are a significant number of "alternative" vehicles, there will have to be another way of collecting taxes. The simplest is a flat fee for each registration, but that will require writing a large check every year and will be "unfair" to people who drive less than average. |
