Newbie here w/ 1985 190D

Been looking, but thought I'd join in...

I'm new to the MB World but have been known to twiddle a wrench or two.
I picked up a 1985 190D w/ 165K on clock...
Usual problems ...
sat 3 years ..new batt.. drained and refueled.. started 1st try.
didn't shut off found Brake Booster Line leaking
tach, fuel gauge, heater core, antenae all broke.
runs and shifts well
FL car body and paint perfect
I'm going to start w/ all the basics, fuel filters
trans fluid change, vacuum hoses etc. any thoughts here?

Anyone know the MB salvage yards in Tampa?
looking forward to getting to know all you dieselers and will
be picking the collective brain trust for help

Looks like I need a name for my BabyBenz
Shultz, Gertrude.. any suggestions?

again hi and thanks in advance for all the help
(P.S) I'll try to follow all the newbie rules..

Welcome Skippy !!
We are all a friendly group & will try & help all we can. Several of your questions have been discussed in previous threads & it would probably be worth while doing lots of searches & even more reading. Our "brains trust" whunter, it getting a 190 going at the moment.
There are several others who know plenty about your motor (60x). You may see one of the mods, (vstech) answering questions about 60x motors, he has a few of them.
when you get to it, put some information in your signature, no need to go over board like some of us !!

Good Luck with your car !!!

Update on my $300 85 190D

Again hi all and thanks for the welcome.

I again talked to the PO to get his mechanics phone #.
Found out BabyBenz hasn't been to the dealer since he had 2k on him.
An old "Jesus Freak Hippie" (his words) has been keeping him alive since then. I asked about the maintenance schedule and was told when he broke he visited the Ol Hippie...
O'boy..no regular PM... that'll make life fun.

Also the odometer got replaced at around 100-125k (now shows 165k) so my Baby has got 250-300K on him.
He runs well shifts ok(auto) so we'll start with all the filters , trans fluid etc and start worrying about timing chains ,injectors and all the 250K maintenance.
I've been reading and filling away all the relevant repair threads.
Looks like I'm gonna need all of them.

Gotta get him tagged and on the road next week.
More details and pictures to follow.
wish me luck and thanks for the welcome.

how do I make this my signature?
"Mercedes Benz" thanks Janis Joplin
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
