Will an engine from a 77 to 83 240 D bolt in a 74 240 D with manual transmission?

No. Not possible. Oil filter housing on the newer 615 engine interferes with the frame and front suspension.

The oil filter housing on the earlier 615 is in front, the later is in the rear. No way to get it in, or I would have bought one!
