1976 300d W114/115 om617 parts swap with other 617s?

Ok guys i have a chance to buy a factory replacement motor for a 1976 300D.

It has the badge and all but i have no use for it other than harvesting parts like the crankshaft, timing chain, chain tensioner and so on.

What i want to know is what parts can i swap with later 617s?

BTW yes this is the one with the relocated oil filter housing on the side of the lower oil pan

As for the crank i know for a FACT the 81 non turbo US model 617s crank with work in turbo 617s fine ....and yes i know they dont have the harding that the turbo do.

Im thinking but dont know for sure that the crank/timing chain/camshaft and what not can be used in SOME later turbo OR non turbo versions.

So guys please chime in and if its a guess thats fine but id LOVE for sure answers if there are any LOL

And the motor has less then 20k on it so yes the parts are worth pulling

Only the cylinder head is the same. The crank won't even fit W123 chassis engines. Pulling parts like the timing chain and rails is completely pointless, they're not parts anyone should consider buying used.

Don't destroy a good rare engine, sell it to somebody capable of using it. Its more valuable as one piece than many.

Forced is right. Buy the engine and then advertise it to swap with a similar condition 617 turbo.

Dieselkraut, you really are not looking at it right. Buy the dang engine and sell it to someone who needs it and then buy your parts new. Nobody should tear up a good engine for the parts you describe unless you are desperate for a new used crank like if your crank has a bad nose. But make sure it is the right crank with the correct hardening and all. It has to be right!

The 115 diesel engine is different design. Like force said only head is similar. No parts could be interchanged with 617.

Well, if it is in your area and you don't have to ship it, I would buy it and when needed I would install the whole engine. A low mileage 617 non turbo factory rebuild is a pretty nice engine - if you can verify the truth of the sellers claims. Always verify, always verify.

Didn't the earlier 616 have 3 main bearings and the later 616 have 5?

The 621 had 3, 190D and early 200D. The 615 moved to 5, later 200D, 220D and early 240D.
