Naming your Car?
I was out today taking a drive and came across an older couple driving 80 300d. We exchanged hellos and they asked me what my cars name was? When I told them I had not named it the gentleman told me,"just like a boat you have to name your Mercedes. Mines is Ben".
Ok, so I have to ask you guys. Have you named your car, if so what its name? |

My 240's name is Flo, I've often thought of getting custom plate with FLO. My 300TD's name was Winnie (Winnie the Wagon). My wife named Flo, and she had the name picked out before we even had seen the car, we were on the way to look at it. She denies this but I know it to be true. I should have known at that point that we were going to have it for a long time. Sometimes the names come quickly and other times it takes a while. It took a long time to name my wagon.

My 1993 Ford Explorer is named "Marshal Zhukov". It's really cute to hear my little daughters say it, "Daddy, are we taking the Zhookov?"
1995 Dodge Ram is "Marshal Rokossovsky". Well, you get the theme. 1982 Mecedes 240D is known simply as "Mercy" 1995 GMC 6.5 diesel truck is known as "Colonel Krink" my other 1982 Mercedes, 300DT, had not had a name until one day my wife referred to it as "the storage Mercedes"... I can't think of it by any other moniker now.

My formula ford is "the race car". My wife's pt cruiser is "barney" because of its color. My MItsubishi Montero with the little snow plow is called "the jeep". My first car, the 60 simca was called Albert. (was that before the beatles uncle albert song? about 1965.

The 80 300SD is "The Ambassador" because early on friends kept telling me it looked like an Ambassadors car, so that was easy.
The 87 SDL is "Big Blue" because, well, it's big and it's blue. The 72 SEL is "Old Blue" because, you guessed it, it's old and it's blue

One of my favorites was 'Beirut Taxi', the name I bestowed on my rusty '81 manual 240D. Unfortunately, some dirtbag stole the car from the susequent owner and torched it!
Happy Motoring, Mark

I've always admired people who can name their vehicles, I just don't have the personality for it. For some reason, I can't refer to a vehicle by a name rather by type like: "The Mercedes" or "The Ford".
My GF calls my truck "Xena the Warrior Princess" but if I wanted to name the Mercedes, it would probably be "Mariah" since it's black.

300SDL = "Pearl" -- as in, the black pearl, pearl black paint color on the chart, take your pick
300SD = "Natalie", named after her previous owner. She's been "the Natalie car" for as long as I can remember so it's not too much of a stretch. 240D = "Tortuga" -- spanish for "turtle", a reference to the top speed and acceleration characteristics. |

That's hilarious! One of my friends bestowed the same name on MY '81 manual 240D. Bizarre.

aw come on josh... don't be that way!
I haven't named any of mine so far, but my family had vettes that were named. byron and bruno. I call them by color and year... but then, I've got plenty and would run out of names.
