alda like the wastegate have springs, that sag over time, so i could see them being part of "normal maintenence" but i could not imagine what kind of interval should be used.

Check post #19 again, and follow to the referenced page in the mercedes FSM. It is adjustable, and the FSM tells how in the referenced Programmed Maintenance section.

I believe the alda is compensated by a gas charged chamber "aneroid" to compensate for atmospheric and turbo boost.

I do not have this document. Care to share. It is not covered in the 617 or 60x documents that I have.

I did read some interesting tid bits under programmed repairs. When the head cracks, they refer to it as "porous" they also note that pressure tests may not find it.

I see the document in my CD FSM which might be an update over the paper one. The FSM I have is for the 124, I'll see if I can find it online and send you the link.

I've failed to find a link to the manual on line, the one I had saved is now defunct. However, if you can find access to a CD manual of the 603 Engine Manual, it is in Combustion, Programmed Repairs, Combustion III and I believe that it is page 12.

Pity we can't just pay for a network license to the manuals and allow access on the website, ...

ALDA does not have springs like a wastegate. At all.

Whats the pdf name? I have just looked across my w123,w124 and w201 manuals. Have you seen the w201 manual online from startek? Much different than the others. Goes much further into detail RE epa crap on 602 etc. Particularly functional tests for 90 and up.

I have not seen the Startek manuals.

The M-B CD manuals are a love/hate thing for me. Seems like everything is in there, all the latest versions, no greasy fingerprints, but it is so much easier to read my paper copies.

Unfortunately, when I bought my 124 books my '91 4matic was just going out of warranty and I was panicing, bought all of the books for the gasoline version as I didn't have a diesel. Now they're out of print and I seem to just miss all of the 603 paper manuals when they go on ebay.

All springs become weaker and eventually fail.

Suspension springs do fail
Suspension springs do fail
