I'd leave it, personally.

IMO it is the system pressure. We pegbat 3 bar, which is roughly 45psi, and I'm sure it is around that or a bit higher... Any car I've had I don't believe has had pressure higher than 45-55 psi.

If you really wanted to know you could estimate friction factor for the lines, turns and fittings (standard chemical engineering literature will explain that - check perry's), and get an idea for pressure loss to the cooler.

I am at a total loss to work out where all the oil is coming from!!
Normally I allow my cars to drain over night. Its an over kill I know, just makes life easy. Put the sump plug & new filter element in & fill with oil in the morning.
yep, I pull sump plug and while oil is draining pull oil filter from housing, then I loosen lower oil cooler hose fitting and drain. By this time, sump is dripping a drop every minute or so -

as for draining the cooler, imo, theres no plug. odds are the car is 25+ years old, it hasnt been done in 25 years, why start now?

if u add a drain its just more stuff to leak, i dont like having extra parts that could potentially break.
I like getting as much dirty oil drained from the system as possible and this setup does not have to leak if done right -

I personally have never had a problem with the cooler. The problem is that everyone over tightens them. Same with the hard lines of the injection pump.

true, my sd oil cooler lines loosened easily, the td line took some time and a little heat (operating temp) but now I just snug them up after oil changes/cooler drain and the do not leak. I agree, I think these lines loved up a bit do fine but I am certain they get tightened too much as you mentioned -

Nice, how much and what does your oil look like after 3,000 miles or so? Amost as clean as a gasser?

The way to to tear them is to not use a second wrench on the cooler side if the joint.

I would never install a non stock filter on a benz either. Same reason. The one from the factory is massive and any rigging I had done would be much more likely to fail than the well designed equipment from the factory.

But, that said, Brad's looks very nice.
