BRRRRR!!!

Gawd, here I thought I'd left the cold weather behind in NC 3 weeks ago. Last two days here in SA it hasn't got above 25 F during the day, down to around 15 F at night. Tomorrow is supposed to be more of the same, with a chance of snow early on. No relief until sometime during the weekend. That plus a windchill yesterday of zero to minus 5.

When I saw the weather forecast Tuesday afternoon, I was down to 1/4 tank on the Jeep. I went by Wally World and picked up a quart bottle of PS White and dumped it in when I filled up the tank a little later. Glad I did - that Italian diesel growled and snarled like a bad-tempered grizzly for the first few seconds after startup the last two mornings, being disturbed from it's slumber at 6 AM and 15 F outside, immediately going to 1000 RPM high idle and the aux coolant heater kicking in. I knew that engine was bloody cold when I saw the glow plug light for those Bosch ceramics stay on for close to 5 seconds - normally you have to be looking at the light when you turn the key to even see it blip on and off.

Glad I took the time when I was in NC to replace that original weak-kneed thermostat, and more so that I installed that leather heated drivers seat out of an '02 Liberty a year or so ago.

Hmmmm, I wonder if an old NA Isuzu or VW pickup diesel would fit in it? Good thing for you it's too small to fit a 603 in it, or I would have had plans for that spare engine.

I think Calif was broke before the economic down turn. need to fire the Bums in charge.

We have had sunny and warm weather since Jan 1 through today, Feb 4. except for one crappy day Jan 30, with 7/10in or rain. Not normal. Maybe this is the lul before the storm, and we will get hammered later in the month through March, and the east coast will be sunny and warm.

Iam not complaining though.

20 below zero on Wednesday with high of -1. 47 degrees today.
A whole quart of Power Service is way overkill. Because of issues with diesel schoolbuses, the news showed glass bottles of untreated vs treated diesel fuel at 15 below zero the other day. Big difference.

Broken pipes in Tucson

They had a hard freeze in sunny Tucson. My 84 year old mother reported that she had a burst water supply pipe and had to shut off the water at the street. (she's old but not unable) I read in the Tucson newspaper that their whole water system had issues because the pumping control systems which are in unheated areas flaked out. Now that's cold!

maybe. it's only about40F here... I don't think anything is really needed, but if the tank is full of summer fuel, and it's cold, the white ps could help some.

I agree it may help. I meant that putting in a whole quart was way overkill. It only requires a few ounces.

yeah, but that's putting it in before filling the tank, if the tanks full, I like to dump in a quart bottle and let it settle and mix for a bit.
