Affront to our diesels

Anyone notice the slap-in-the-face to our diesels in the BMW diesel ad during the Superbowl today? Was it a 115 or a 123 they were implying was slow and dirty?

Looked like a 123. Glad I'm not the only one more than a little irritated.

I am sure the BMW 524TD was a stellar performer.

123, and a Volvo... shame though. None of mine have smoked like that.

Bastards. If I had $60k to spend on a BMW d I would have (until I saw that). Not any more.

I think they're a bit ashamed of their past, comparing a new diesel to 26 - 34 year old technology.

Did they even have a diesel back then?

some topic on another thread...

but I'll stay on this one.

I don't see it as an affront. It's a challenge. I see it as a Teutonic style 'glove slap' stepping up the diesel game! In Germanic culture (at least in some ) it's still permissible to tell someone what you really think, corporations as well. Lets face facts, the C class diesel is LONG overdue in the North American market, especially any class diesel station wagon. Until MB USA answers, the ball is in their court...

--- Holy crap ---- what is with the cube headed half-time characters??? TRON, Apple computer and an Ikea commercial all in one.

They had the 524TD, and several in other parts of the world. The 524TD engine made it into the Lincoln Mark VII as well, I know one of our members picked one of these up not too long ago (can't remember who though)

I would think that a diesel lover would be happy to see a diesel passenger car getting Super Bowl exposure. I didn't see the commercial, but it sounds like their just trying to dispel the belief that all diesels are loud and smelly.

My neighbor, who is a 20 something female with a decent income, received a BMW 335TD as a loner from the dealer and she loved it.

As well as the Vixen motorhome. It could be the most fuel efficient diesel motorhome ever made and sold in the USA.

Okay, I just saw the commercial and the trucker belching out diesel smoke was hilarious. At least they didn't single out the W123 as the only culprit.

Did they really have to use a David Bowie song....now I hate them even more.
