this is a continuation of thread titled my broken sdl broke down going home.

car has 175 k ,alda off ,egr vac line plugged.

initial sudden symptoms were inabilty to go over 30mph with excessive dark smoke.

currently i have it at my indy-his first comment :alda is off ,its overfueling.im going to put alda back on and go from there ,i did tell him that it ran without alda for a year without significant problems.

Pull off the air hose and poke at/look at your turbo.

yep ,trap oxidizer is shot as well as turbo,probably from running rich with alda off.this may be the end of my car.

so im going to try to keep car-put straight pipe in with a used turbo.i think it must be a royal pita to get turbo out,i have some info from maual,but input is welcome.

do you think alda off contributes to plugging up cat?

Pulling the turbo isn't a huge deal, just take the air filter stuff and inner firewall out of the way first, and the belly pan if you have one, everything is at least in reach/view.

Someone posted pics of a plugged cat on here... search around for it if you feel. I am sure there are a few reasons they become plugged... blowby, people driving slow, EGR crapola, etc.

i have a confession-i did run car on veg for a while with heaters etc,and i think it must of plugged cat.

so ,if i put in a straight pipe, without cat,i am i illegal?

I have no idea of the laws specific to your state. I believe CA just does a snap test for Diesel vehicles so as long as you do not have a huge cloud out the tailpipe you should be fine.

What does that mean? I would gut it/remove it/etc. Gutted passes a visual, just a piece hacked out will not.

im posting a follow up to my sdl power loss and smoke issue.it is now resolved.


i had the cat removed at muffler shop,they said it was toatally gone,

now just a straight pipe .turbo was ok, put alda back on with 2 shims,car is now

a rocket ship-no smoke.i feel better with alda on,no worry about smoke with

heavy foot.

wait...
does your car have the trap ox before the turbo? if so, MB will replace the turbo and the trap ox...

as to recall ,trap ox was already recalled and replaced with straight pipe and cat.car runs better without cat and probably cleaner.
