Very nice car. I hope someone here buys this one.
I agree......it sure ain't red. At least not any shade of red I think of when I read or hear; red. It's anybody's guess what color it is, since it is an aftermarket paint job anyway. Burgundy on burgundy is what it looks like to me.

Hey Guys - I know I should have posted it here first! Yes- It's mine, and as the ad said my wife wants it gone. First mistake was to call her and say "Hey hun, guess what?, I just bought another wagon!"....without telling her first. Second was to start messing with it, as I do all new toys knowing I have a million other things to finish and do....including my own wagon first.

In any case the ads say it all. It does look purple in the pics as the sun was going down. It's definately very close to original , if not the same.

Let me know if you have questions or want to check it out.

It does have the #14 head but temps are great and there is NO blow-by at all. It produces lots of boost, althougha bit slow off the line. The Alda has not been touched and probably needs an adjustment for off the line boost. It is tuned and running right now. The lady I bought it from didn't drive in much at all. I went through and changed all the filters, cleaned the alda vac lines (very sooty) and plugged the newer EGR vac line.

I have not even been able to crawl around underneath but don't see an rust except for some surface stuff on some nuts/bolts.
The only thing I did was clean up and paint the wheels on the exterior.

I wish I would have found this one first before I bought mine. i have spent too much money on mine restoring it and this would have been a perfect start instead. It's not perfect but better than most I see out there for sale etc,

Tried to place a very fair price for it to sell fast, and let my life resume back to "normal" .

I dont know how you can tell its an aftermarket paint job. It looks exactly like mine as seen on a lift last week undergoing SLS repairs.

Perhaps someone may chime in as to what Mercedes calls this colour? until then, its burgundy to me.

It has been repainted. The ad on craigslist, stated it was an aftermarket paint job. Therefore, it is not original 24 y.o. factory paint.

Ok, well thats just cheating.

Anyway, it looks exactly like my car in the same light, so I say its still factory shade and a good match.

Isn't that 512 Garnet Red (Almondine Red)? Or perhaps 587 Cabernet Red (Pajett Red)?

Personally I love the color on the car. I think I'd prefer the interior in cream-beige or black, even Palomino, but many people love that red interior.

It IS the same color. The door jams that have not been painted match the body. I also have the original window sticker from 1987 sitting right in front of me. It is 587 Cabernet Red Metallic and 177 Burgundy MB Tex.
All the body panel tags, with the numbers on it, match too- No replacement parts or accidents. The car cost $46,076 on the sticker

Optional equip:
541 Partitioning net and luggage cove $390.00
844 Folding rear facing seat $975
873 Electric heated front seats $450
412 elec slidng sunroof w/pop-up N/C
088 Floor mats $101.00 (I have those in the garage)

The options alone is just about half the price I'm asking for the car!!

vstech will be coming out to look at it soon

jk.. my 603 has a perfectly good 14 head.
The #14 head is not the big buggaboo many folks think! If you watch your engine temps & don't let it overheat, then it's as good as any. I certainly wouldn't let it keep me from buying an excellent example such as this one.

I have a "87 300D with the #14 head. Drive the snot out of it, too. No problems after 146K miles. I just keep a eye on the temp gauge...

I agree, but disagree with this part...

Just ANALLY maintain the cooling system, and VERIFY the fan clutch and the aux fans are working every single spring! NEVER GO INTO SUMMER WITHOUT VERIFYING they are perfect! you don't want the engine temp to creep up on you. keep it ALWAYS running in the 85C range with proper maintenance and it will last as long as you want to keep the car!
