First (of many I'm sure) Whoops @$$%^%

A brief but sad tale......

I am in the process of getting the '85 190D roadworthy for SWMBO.
She's got a '93 Chrysler New Yorker w/ bad brakes(Google Bendix 10 for a laff) and a slipping trans.
Got this little toy for $300 300k+ on clock no heat ,AC etc.
Going thru all the filters, fixing the seat w/ pool noodles, fixing the no shut off etc.

Soo.. the sad part.. I got a little carried away w/ the WD 40 on the throttle linkage, door and ignition locks.

Now the ignition key is stuck in the "0" postion and I'm following the Ignition Key stuck in '0" position threads, lots of info here.
I'm going to try the various fixes including ,belt sander vibrate key w/ graphite lock lube tomorrow.

Then I'll replace the ignition tumbler from the dealer..
Goota luv these finicky 'ole cars.

Wish me luck

(P.S) Thanks to all who have posted thier fixes here.
Without this site I'd be in deep $$%^&^%.

before you use graphite, get some brake cleaner in there, and flush out all the wd40. that stuff will turn the graphite into a black sludge! heck, the brake cleaner may solve your tumbler issues by itself! have a towel ready!

X2 Never put stuff that attracts dust in a lock unless you wish to be locked out !!

Ignition Whoops!

Thanks for the replies..

Yep gonna hit it w/ spray start or brake cleaner ,,use the master key ..see what happens..
then well start with the vibrating sander attached to key..
gotta luv all these crazy but good ideas from past posts.

yep.. I'm gonna post some pictures.. gotta get him cleaned up a bit first..
he's perty.. been in a garage his whole life , paint looks new, interior ok...
stay tuned.......

(P.S) WTF? I never thought a little WD-40 could actually break something. Welcome to the world of precision engineering

I won the key stuck in the '0" position battle..

I used a sander to vibrate with vicegrips to hold the key while I turned it.
Got it to the ACC or postion 1.
Used a coathanger filed down 45 degress for 2 inches (shaped like a "U"
to depress the locks, pull the tumbler out.
Off to the dealer for a new tumbler ..
thanks to all who posted the fixes
