what is this plug 82 240

this plug goes to one of those aluminum boxes. This box is attached to the inside of the driver's lower dash panel, so it gets unplugged when i have to remove the panel. I've had my lower dash panel down for a while and it doesn't seem to affect anything at all, that's why I wonder what the heck this plug is and the aluminum box that it plugs into. I've been wondering this for years.
Thanks

Ok, how many pins does the connection have?

It has a lot of pins and the plug that runs into it has two sets of wires coming out of it.

It's the cruise control amplifier. It probably doesnt work.

I have removed mine on the '85 - this is where my WVO brain/computer now resides.

Yes, the cruise control amp. It is fastened to the lower dash panel on manual transmission cars.
