That's pretty concentrated stuff.

1 fl. oz. treats 32 gallons of diesel.

I would need .5 oz per tank.

Is this supposed to be better than what I use now, which doesn't seem to do much, DieselKleen?

While replacing the fuel sender seals in my 300D I noticed the interior wall of the fuel tank had a thin coating of black stuff that came off on my fingers when rubbed. I guess this is fungi?

I've been reading the forums on this topic and it seems that the StarTron Enzyme product is viewed favorably here. I hope NAPA sells it, I need to give it a try I guess.

huge bottle of Startron to share in NC

Oldwolf,
it does sound like you should give a rinse with this stuff. And I have some to share....

I was recently searching for some myself and could only find it at Marine supply. Wish I knew about the smaller bottles at NAPA (though not all stores know how to find these things). Thanks for the recent heads-up crs82

So unfortunately I paid big for a big 64oz bottle of Enzyme Formula Fuel Tank Cleaner!
Now they did have "enzyme fuel TREATMENT" for cheaper, more like the Dieselkleen stuff for old fuel and basic system cleaning keytones. But I needed the other stuff for a dirty tank.

Since I only used a few ounces to treat my 2 tanks...I would be happy to TRADE? a couple ounces to anyone (like Oldwolf) locally!

NCfriend - Is this a one treatment process or do you need to always use a low dosage? You live very close to me.

I noticed that my primary filter was starting to build up junk. I put 1oz (shock treatment) in the tank and now the filter is clear. Idles better too.

Oldwolf, I doubt that the black deposit you see is the dreaded "algae". In the boating world the black sort of granular stuff that falls out of old diesel fuel and sticks to stuff, is typically called asphalteens. It appears to be a component of #2 diesel that comes out of solution as the fuel ages. I am not sure if today's ultra low sulfur fuel still has this characteristic. The Startron fuel tank cleaner does break this up, but can plug a filter with the loosened particles, as they mention in the instructions. Old boats that set around for years with full tanks can have serious problems with this stuff but it is not usually a problem with cars that have a higher fuel turn over.

So I am not an expert, but I think one or 2 treatments of the real Tank Cleaner is good when needed (noticable deposits or bad clogging)

= good point nelbur
You should be prepared to change filters shortly after this Cleaner treatment; like mentioned are in the product's directions.

the enzyme treatment is more of the routine use for sitting fuel or maybe annual refresh through the system?

Oldwolf: If you'd like to try a dose of Tank Cleaner, PM me and I'll be in the city on Friday

Same.Same !

The Tank Cleaner is just a more concentrated version of the Startron.

You CANNOT over dose with the Starbrite / Startron Diesel Products .
They're an ENZYME activator.

If you've got the Tank Cleaner, use it with confidence.

I've got the same 4 gals of diesel that's been sitting,UnMolested for 5 Years EXCEPT for the addition of 2 Oz of Startron every year...
AND it won't GROW anything.

Star TronŽ Enzyme Fuel Treatment is a revolutionary new fuel additive using enzyme technology to enhance the performance of boats, automobiles, trucks, RVs, tractors, farm equipment, generators, lawn mowers, lawn equipment, oil burning furnaces and all other small engines.
  • Disperses bacteria and fungal growth
  • Reduces all emissions, including carcinogenic, particulate smoke-eliminates diesel soot
  • Prevents fuel oxidation and stabilizes diesel chemistry for at least two years
  • Lowers fuel system maintenance
  • Eliminates carbon build-up from burners, injectors and exhaust components
  • Increases fuel economy
  • 1 fl. oz. treats 32 gallons of diesel
I'll be picking this up at NAPA tomorrow. Do you think the first treatment should be 1/2 oz. or 1 oz? My fuel tanks holds 18 gallons.

Should I use it until the bottle is empty or is one or two tanks enough?

I have a spare fuel filter ready. Thanks.
