We are all proud of these cars, lets face it.

All Mercedes engines are beautifully made and should go a ton of miles. But all new cars today will go a ton of miles today, because they all are much better made today than 20 years ago.
I don't know if a 280E will go as many miles as a diesel, or is it like other gas engines of that era?

I was in a Lexus LS 400 the other day, an old one, and I could not tell the age or mileage of the engine, or the car. It had 400,000 miles on it.
I am convinced that these are the best cars made in the world, easy.

Having said that, there is something illogical about these cars and the love they can inspire.

I guess love is like that.

I'am on my 10th Benz having had the 1965 220 seb of 25 yrs. ago to my current daily driver 82 240 D with 113,000K. I'am the second owner on this one and she is really nice. Flew to St. Petersburg, Fla. two yrs. ago and drove it straight back to Iowa an hr after landing and concluding the deal at the airport. I just got rid of a 92 300 SE that was the definition of a love/hate relationship. I love the diesel sound, smell, and simplicity and couldn't be happier with it!

Thumbs up

My 1980 300D has 360000 kilometers on it,is driven 100-200 klicks per day with 200 lbs of survey equipment in the trunk.I get 32 mpg (cdn),it doesn't burn any oil and it's the most comfortable car I've owned. It's my first MB and first diesel but not my last. The guys at work give me a hard time but I'm sure they're just jealous

turbodiesel, nice W126....

My 560 SEL is 11 years old, so I think that would qualify. Nothing like an old Benz... built like a panzer. 107k miles- looking forward to another 100,000.

On another note, I just watched Ronin on DVD, now I want a 6.9! Never mind the Audi S8, mere childs play.

Neat 6.9 link

I once referred to my TD has having only 183,000 miles. Which to all of us here is, only 183K. However when I say it that way to others they go.."ONLY 183K!?". I love it. The I tell them that my SD has just about a quarter of a million miles. they just about choke.

The 6.9 Didn't get enough action.. the S8, the M5 and the Peugot's got action. Such a shame.

Yep,
Too much Peugot action... The M5 was nice, esp with a woman and a 5-spd.

1976 300D. Daily driver. Looking for roof racks to haul my ladders. Trunk is big enough for compressor and tools. It's nice to drive home after a hard days work with the sunroof open!

My daily driver is a '83 300cd, that is if I'm first out of the house in the mornings. Sometimes my 16 year old son beats me to it. The car is solid as a tank, has 203,000 and still purrs like a kitten.

1978 300d

Jan 2001 I bought a rust free good looking 1978 300d with a thrown rod for $400(oil pump failure at highway speeds). I then looked around the local wrecking yards and found a used engine from an 1981 300d with 220,000 miles but a bad trans. I put the $650 engine in the 78 and when my brothers flight was cancelled on Sept 11. He needed to go to Pennsylvania from Las Vegas, so we decided to prep the car for the cross country trip. We finished hooking up all the hoses and connections, added all the fluids, and took the car for a 250 mile shakedown period. Then next morning he left and drove the car for literally 3 days straight with 1 hour sleep, only stopped for oil check, gas, and food. Since then the car has only needed an alternator, thermostat, and has given 20,000 more miles (he drives a 150 miles / day) and 25 mpg. Amazing cars, cross country and 20,000 miles for $1050 and still going strong.

a 1983 300D is my daily driver. It has 240,000 miles on it, and aside for some electrical glitches, has proven to be an outstandingly reliable car. I would not hesitate to embark on a cross-continent journey in it right now.
