Fresh air draw for Recirc
Greetings.
Where is the air drawn when the HVAC system is in recirc mode? Is there more than one an interior sampling point? My specific interest is the w124 '90 300D 2.5-Turbo. Thanks. |

Does no one know or is the question not of interest?

Patience, Doctor!
Very few of us have the right manual and I don't spend all of my time on line. Sometimes it takes awhile to get an answer.
It appears that the fresh/recirculated air flap closes off the fresh air intake to the blower, forcing the blower to suck air in at the left and right sides of the case as represented by the striped lines in the diagram. Jeremy

What a great drawing.
I see questions that are answered that I don't know why and others that are not and I don't know why. So I know when I post I may get amazing response or no interest. Both are acceptable but I was attempting to determine if my questions was uninteresting or no one knew the answer. That's what I attempted to say. I did not realize it was a hard question but after looking at your drawing I'm still not certain where I could actually look and see the recirc inlet vent. Under the passenger dash is a small blower (size of half a beer can) that I suspect is used to draw the air into the temperature sensor. When I pulled my dash and replaced the pods last month I did not notice the recirc inlet but I was not looking for it at the time. I'm guessing that when the recirc pod closes it not only shuts off the fresh air intake and opens the recirc intake. I'll take a look under the passenger dash again in the next few days. If anyone has actually seen the recirc intake or knows of its location I'd appreciate the info. Thanks. |

I think that on this forum, most of us won't post a guess unless we're pretty sure and tell you it's a guess. In this case, it isn't something that leapt out at me when I had dashes off and serviced vacuum-pods, so I didn't answer.
I do remember there being some rubber flaps on the sides of the HVAC unit, which are probably the air inlets / one-way valves. I have a spare one at a garage nearby, if I get there I'll look it over. - Jeff

I had thought my question was border-line trivial and the lack of response was mostly because, "hey, that's obvious". Now that it has progressed a bit I realize that it was harder than I suspected. Makes me wished I had thought to look when my dash was off. If you can see something on your units that are out that would be great. Thanks. Stuart |
