vehicle inspection/ solid opinions in Salt Lake City area
Hey folks in Mercedes Land,
I HAVE EDITED the original post to clarify from my previously stated post. When I created this account I was living in Wisconsin, yet I have moved to Park City for my winter work- this takes me away from the land of the frozen tundra and into an area with much nicer used MB's, but takes me from the knowledge in my local community. I am looking for a MB wagon (Diesel) and am still fairly green around the gills so I was looking for a good shop or mechanic in the Salt Lake City (SLC) area, as it is the closest metro area to me. Forgive me if I am wrong, but my guess is if I consulted someone in the Park City area, they may start the conversation with "you're welcome". All that aside, a vehicle I have found is in Salt Lake City so... I am trying to arrange w/ the current owner a test drive, preferably one that I can take it to a mechanic/ tech, that can say, "Well, this is a mighty fine vehicle... but" Living the seasonal lifestyle doesn't warrant tons of extra coin, so I would like to avoid any $urpri$e$ if you know what I mean? Being from the land of barters (Northern, Wisconsin) I would gladly trade a six pack of your favorite barley sandwich (beers) or bottle of spirits from the local High West Distillery in return for an honest, straight to the point, genuine inspection and synapsis of the vehicle I am interested in. Does that all seem coherent and grammatically sound? Any insight = GREATLY appreciated Cheers Brian Last edited by earnyerturn; 02-15-2011 at 09:57 AM. Not sure about what you mean, but perhaps you could narrow it down to some basic questions?

Joe, I am not sure if you are being sarcastic. The guy is a seasonal worker and doesnt have extra money to spend unwisely.
So Brian, get cozy. Best place to learn is in 'the house of hands on' with a connection to this site. That being said.....read read read. Every post from a newbie like your self has the same advice. Thinking of buying a 300D? (or any other model for that matter) search the forum and there will be a 100 or more threads of someone asking (like me too) "looking at buying...." Save your money and buy a nice car. A cheap benz will bleed you. There are many good cars in the 2000-5000$ price point. Shop carefully. Watch here as cars go up for sale and members find clean examples. Consider flying somewhere (rust free) to drive back your sweet ride.

Oh and could you elaborate on what the "SLC area" is?
Salt Lake City? but your profile says Wisconsin.

Ok, thanks. Well it appears the guy is looking for help with a PrePurchase Inspection.

Perhaps better title: " Will trade Beer for prepurchase inspection of 80s Benz in unknown area "

As long as he sticks to the MB diesels, he'll at least be getting the best mpg out there in Mercedesland. If fuel cost is no worry, the array is wide and vast for a Benz.
I looked up under the Good Shops section of this forum to find a shop when I was in Flagstaff, AZ two weeks ago - then again to find a recommended shop in Albuquerque, NM when I stopped there during my trip back from Las Vegas, NV. It was determined that the problem could wait until I was back in Dallas, TX. before dealing with it. Unless I could work on the car myself with a little forum advice, that's where I would start. Staying rust-free is a good thing on these used cars. If you will hang around spending time with other Mercedes-Benz owners in a given region, whether on-line or in person, you will start to learn of people 'in-the-know' about repair capabilities in your area. I was a member of the local chapter of the MBCA (Mercedes-Benz Club of America) here in Texas. I met and learned a lot from several other MB owners. Hope that helps. I think he is on the wrong forum. He wants someone who knows about the C107 chassis, big V-8 coupes.

BUMP FOR ORIGINAL EDIT
Folks of the Forum,
My apologies for creating a word salad of disorienting proportions. I have updated the original post for clarity. The suggestion of title "Will trade beer for inspection/ solid opinions in Salt Lake City area" (or something to that effect, is the route I should have went. Thanks for the feedback and initial responses. *(I think this is the forum I want to be in, looking for advice on a diesel wagon) Cheers Brian |

yup. you're in the right place.
any ideas on the model and price point wagon you are looking for? I've owned them all it seems, so I can help with them somewhat over the net... looks like you've got a mechanic responding here that's in your area. PM him. (click on his name, and private message "PM" will pop up as a choice, just type him a message)
