Delivery valve seals leaking...again? 1990 300D 2.5 Turbo
About 500 miles ago I replaced my badly leaking delivery valve seals on the '90 300D. The section of the old gaskets was pretty much square so they were done. I installed five new gaskets and five new crush washers making sure to keep everything as clean as possible. Everything that came out went straight into a cup of clean diesel. I observed the 30NM, release, 30NM, release, then 30+5NM torque procedure when reinstalling the valve holders.
Then the other day I smell fuel again, and it's coming from the top of the pump. What did I miss? Or did I just get some bad seals? As far as I know they aren't OE seals (they came from ********).

Did you lube the o rings when you put them on? Sometimes they can get damaged when you put them on.

Are you able to tell which injector is leaking? Base or top of the delivery valve? When you say gasket you talking the o-ring correct?
Pictures/instructions: http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/OM606DeliveryValveSeals If its from the top of the delivery valve you'll just need to snug up the injector line. Otherwise you'll need to redo the delivery valve. I ordered extra O-rings and crush washers when I did mine (Just in case). I'd try snugging down the leaking delivery valve before I redid it. YMMV.

Same problem here.
You need to be very meticulous about removing any twists in the o-ring once it is on the DV holder. It is very hard to tell if the rubber is twisted, but since each one goes on so tight, you can assume each one is twisted. You must lube them before rolling on, then use a fine tool to pull the o-ring out of the groove and around drag it around the entire perimeter. Kinda like when you roll on a pair of tight socks. The fuel is coming from the same place it was before, at the base of the valve holder up from under the hold down collars. I didn't lube them with oil but they were somewhat wet with diesel when they went on. Should I have used oil?

Thanks, JT20. That's a timely bit of advice in my slow-motion quest to get the delivery valves sealed and back on the road.
