Start looking around the PNP type yards. not all cars draggen there are junkers. some have been donated or traded in older cars with good running gear. if the car was a driver and in an accident, you know it was a driver and possibly a good engine.
you will only know for sure by doing a compression test to see the health of the engine. an engine from a DIY yard is around $300. Charlie

I know this is an old post but its worth adding.
My local yard just quoted me $155 plus $20 core plus accessories like alternator, power steering pump. Those are ~$20 each or probably ~ $225 out the door.
