Gracias to forum for help

Took a small leap of faith tonight and followed what I hoped to be good advice. It was --- and all is well with my MB. A while back I had changed all (but one) of my fuel lines to viton (been running bio a long time). The supply line leaving the tank looked to be a custom made hose. I had no success in finding a viton replacement. Sought advice in this forum and was told to cut the pressed fitting away and a barb would be exposed. Well my faith in the soundness of this forum is pretty strong, but I was surely a happy wrencher when I found this advice to be true. I would not have figured that one out on my own. Thanks for all the help. I really doubt that I could manage to own such a fine old auto without the shared wisdom of this forum.

I love that tip - I definitely was very happy to see that barbed fitting there.

It works for most low pressure crimped fittings.
I have done the same thing on moderate pressure hydraulic fittings and air line fittings. You need very good hose clamps though.
The less we have a throw away attitude the better.

Talking

Also might mention that after 47K miles on homemade bio that the tank screen was sparkling clean. No crud whatsoever in tank. That too, was a relief.

Try this stuff.....

http://www.eclecticproducts.com/sealall.htm

This is the product of choice for fixing fuel tank leaks on the Alaska Highway.

If it is a big hole, knead the sealant into a piece of cotton cloth and use it as a patch. For cracks or small leaks, just use it right out of the tube.
