cluster problem 220d

i havent been getting much luck in vintage mercedes so i figured someone here may be able to help.

awhile ago on my 73 220d the 15 pin connector fell apart, i got the diagram and put it together, it was working perfectly.

shortly after, the brake light stayed on and none of the gauges worked(besides oil pressure), i found a disconnected wire inside the connector where the solder broke. i repaired the connection and it worked again. until i took it for a ride.

now the fuel gauge and temp gauge dont work, with the battery light on. im kind of stumped, i traced every wire, they are all in good shape.

i dont know if this will be causing my problem at all, but i took a cluster from a 76 300d, which had an electrical temp gauge, installed the sender from that vehicle and wired an electrical temp gauge into my car. ive disconnected this while im troubleshooting however.

any help would be appreciated. thanks

I think my older FSM includes wiring for the 73, I'll take a look this weekend if I get time.

I would check and make sure that the ground circuit of the new 76 300D cluster is okay.

Offhand, I'd say you're dealing with a cluster****.

Visually inspect the circuit board on the fuel/oil/temp gauge unit for burned places in the board.

is that something that is re solderable, or salvage yard material? looks a little yellow, and the solder is somewhat moveable.

upon further inspection everything on the board seems fine.

everything just seems like a ground issue to me as it worked fine until 2 days ago. are these clusters like the ones in the 123s where u can just run a wire off the speedo and ground it? it doesnt seem like that because there are no electrical contact points like there were in the 123s

john did u find the wiring diagrams? i know something is def messed up with the pinouts.

what i need is the pinout from a 76 300d and from a 73 220d.

the cluster i got is from a 76 300d and my car is the 73 220d.

the difference in the clusters i can see is that now i have an electrical temp gauge.

if someone has the pinouts and the wiring schematics for both vehicles i can re wire the 76 to work with my 73.

so far blinkers arent working and when i hit my parking brake the temp gauge pins at 250.

or, if anyone has a cluster from a 73 with a mechanical temp gauge that still works let me know.
