85 300SD - Help identifying part
Hey, I'm a noob to these MB's and have a question. I have an 85 300SD and wondered what this piece was. Sorry for no pic, but this is probably easy for you seasoned guys. Its located on the top of the valve cover about in the middle. It looks like a little module (2"x3"?) with a 3 pin connector. It interacts with the linkage assembly mounted next to it. The 3 pin wire harness on mine has deteriorated and isn't staying on the module (for lack of a better term) and I wondered what this was and what effect it was having on the car. Thanks for the help.

On an 85 I thought that was for the A/C compressor cut-out at WOT going to the KLIMA?
Where is that microswitch then?

Yup, on 85s it also goes into the Klima relay for compressor cutout on WOT.

WOT is wide open throttle and KLIMA is the relay that takes diffrent inputs and either allows or does not allow your ac compressor engage.
EDIT: The compressor control relay monitors the engine speed vs. compressor speed to protect the belt system from a locked compressor. It disengages to protect an overheating engine and to provide extra power in diesel models, and may possibly disengage to protect a low or erratic idling motor or an under-voltage system courtesy of: http://www.continentalimports.com/ser_ic60046.html

The EGR system probably does not use that sensor, as I recall 1985s have a fuel rack position sensor.
