Oil from turbo

Hi,

My 82 300CD doesnt use any appreciable amount of oil. We drove it cross country, and the level didnt change. Further, it has no appreciable blowby. I can set the oil cap on the filler hole, and it won't bobble around at all.

Yet, the underside of my engine and tierods, underneath the turbo are caked in oil and grimy dirt. It comes out of the u-tube and via the wastegate all over.

Grimes everything up:

What is my best solution here? Add some sort of catch can on my vc breather? Everything seems to work fine, jus a lot of oil Or does this mean turbo rebuild time?

Thanks!

You could clean the Engine and parts off and do the Breather Tube Catch Can thing as a test.
If your Turbo parts are still getting Oily with the Breater Tube in the Catch Can that would be an indication it is the Turbo.

My thoughts exactly. What if I just ran a breather hose to the ground for a little while... Would that be a huge mess?

I have never done it so I do not know if it will cause a mess.

This is what I use for my '99 E300.

The Oil Trap

The plastic screen is a bit restrictive and in my opinion takes too much vacuum to pull the air through so I punched some holes in it and used steel wool to strip out the oil haze. The bit of oil in the bottom now is after 750 or so miles.i
