Odd question... diesel transplant into 74 convertible?

Could you transplant a diesel into a MB 74 Hardtop convertible? I just think it would be a cool car....

Yes, but it depends on what diesel. The OM617 is too tall to clear the stock hood so you either need to lower the engine or raise the hood somehow. It has been done.

W107 on diesel

Although through reading that thread it appears maybe the NA would work?
was there ever a diesel sl roadster?

The only ones I have seen that have no external modifications have had the motor mounts dropped to accomodate the height. OM603 seems to solve all these issues

OMG! this is exactly what I want to do! I just want to do it to a 74... Dropping a 603 is there would be very cool. I would think the car would be a rocket.

To get the OM617a under the hood of an R107, you need an inch or so more clearance between the axle and the hood. Spacers between the subframe and the body work.

Others have cut out a notch in the subframe to make room for the oil pan. Looks scary when you do that, but it should hold up.

Appears to be a Euro SLC which is not a convertible, just a coupe. Also appears to be in disrepair (=$$$$)

Add said, removable hard top... hmmmm. Also said they had it running. I just like the body shape of it (It's look) So I though It might be a fun project.

Edit, actually add says hardtop AND convertible... maybe he's talking about 2 separate cars....

Never mind that is a removable hardtop as evidenced by the rear passenger window - the SLCs are slightly different--also if you look really closely you can see the seam at the bottom. Pictures are blurry so it is tough to tell. Personally I would stay clear of a car in that shape, and consider the fact that the BMW 3 series convertible in the background literally has a tarp for a convertible top.

The slc is 13" longer and it is evident in the area just behind the drivers door. Much more massive than this. This is a standard removable hardtop. Depending on where in the country this is that car could be fairly decent body wise.

The 107 was offered with a 110 gasser six. I am pretty sure the 110 is a bit taller and longer than a 617, so I would be shocked if a 617 would not fit under the hood. I have not actually tried it but would be surprised.
