Are the OM616 and OM617 throttle linkages identical?
I don't have them here to do a comparison, and I'm wondering if I can pilfer any OM617 throttle linkage assembly for my OM616.
To be clear, I'm referring to the whole set of parts that bolts on top of the valve cover, and has rods connecting to cruise control / IP / accelerator pedal throttle rod |

I am sure there is at least 2 different types of 617 linkages and maybe even 3 types.

best you do a parts number comparison or take a pic of your linkages & post it so that others can compare. it may help if you put your car details in your signature so we all knew what model & year you have.

It's not likely, the whole run of 123's has seen lot of variation in linkages. The turbos are different than the non turbos, the 4 cylinder different than the 5 cylinders, the autos are different than the manuals. You might be able to find a piece or two the will fit but you'll really only be able to find the right set from another car that is the same as yours.

As all have written; there are a bunch of different linkage configurations.
OTOH, in a pinch, I've adapted a 1979 616 linkage to operate a 617 with both types of IP's. The bowden cable setup for the 617's that operate 722.3 can be driven without this link, but doesn't downshift "properly" <Someone please correct me/this if there is some other functionality deleted by the bowden. i think upshifts are still vac controlled on all the 722.3's I've driven.> The cruise control linkage for later VDI servo types requires its own linkage extension, which is based on the bowden bellcrank atop the valve cover. the early vacuum servo's are more easily hacked/ adapted, using a cable. Early 616's had a completely different bellcrank at the firewall -- and pedal linkage, too, I think, as it came up on the opposite side of the pivot shaft! ... and the main rod is the wrong length. can't remember if its short or longer. I had to make a plastic spacer block from 1" thick delrin to make up the space that is occupied by the rubber block on early 80's linkages. The rubber block pivot was the part that failed each time I had to whip my saved, early "hardpivot" linkage into service. So, in a sense, I'm saying "probably" if you're creative with the parts. In almost every case the IP link is adaptable, and I think they all use the same/similar mainshaft pivot design mounting to the valve cover -- although later ones deleted the hasp for the cruise servo cable. Watch out for binding between the vertical operating link Quote:

There are several variations in just the 616 linkage alone.. meaning all non turbo..
