Transmission Mount
 

I'm in the process of troubleshooting a drive line vibration in a buddies 85 300SD after replacing flex discs and center support bearing. The original transmission mount is a little soft and I'd like to change it. Anyone know where I can find a Lemforder brand mount? I've searched high and low and only found cheap stuff.

Phil can sometimes get brands not listed on Allparts.

Tell us what indicators you used to make sure you had the latest recommended flex discs to install....
Quote any MB literature you were referring to....if you used any....

Im confused. What exactly are you asking for?

I would replace both the flex discs and the trans mount if you are unsure when they were replaced last.

After digging through old receipts and records on my 355,000 mile car I found that mine were original parts so I decided to replace them.

The trans mount was spongey, but the flex discs were still perfectly fine.

When I did the trans mount, I found that the random driveline vibrations I had disappeared, my car also seemed to coast better and not lose speed as quickly.

It's up to you, but if you have no record of replacing it and love working on your car then there isn't a reason not to do it. Flex discs and trans mount r&rs are incredibly easy compared to the difficulty I had doing the axles.

If you'll read the first post it states that I did replace both flex discs and center support. I got a harmonic vibration now that is really weak at 40mph and really bad at 60mph. The flex discs and center support cured the shaking/vibration under load. The transmission mount is really soft and I'm willing to bet that it is sagging too much causing this problem.

On some cars there are combo flex disc recommendations... and some changed later on...
some are ' soft' in the lateral sense... and some are soft in the other radial sense .... on some cars one of each is called for... so since it started after you put new ones on.. it may be they are the wrong ones for your car... even if they were the same as the old ones which came off... some research may be needed....

I have never seen any discussion about different types of flex discs. Nor have I seen multiple parts (hardness) for the same car. I bought what the catalog showed for this particular car and received Lemforder discs. They have most of the same markings on them that the ones that came off did and those were genuine MB parts. Personally, I've done this job 3 on my cars and never had and problems.

and I am just sharing what I have read in the Factory Shop Manual.... clearly a possibility you have not encountered in the past....

I've been reading this forum for over 6 years and have never seen a thread mentioning this. I also have the FSM and Haynes manual and referred to them both during this project and it says nothing about different types of flex discs. Why don't you point me in the direction of some literature that talks about it. LOL

It is in the Mercedes Benz Factory Shop Manual...paper version..
I do not remember which one...and it might be one of the ' maintenance' manuals...
do you have the two chassis manuals ?

Currently I have the FSM CD manuals. I had the two chassis manuals for my 240D but those went with the car when I sold it.

Just change the Trans Mount and see what happens. They at least do not cost much.

I put on a cheapie trans mount 3 years ago and removed it doing the B2 Piston and Support Mount/Bearing and U-joint job. It seems fin.

When I was looking for the Lemforder Motor Mounts and other parts I would swear I saw a place that sold a Solid Rubber Transmission Mount (I do not remember where I saw it; same shape but maybe for a gasser).

Especially if there is a deceleration vibration.

My only experience is with Corteco and I do not have more than a few years on them. They're holding up fine.
