W126 seats, are they worth it?

I found some good looking seats on Ebay, item number 170553080850, but I don't know if what the guy is asking is worth it.

I am now waiting to hear back about higher resolution pictures.

The seats are leather.
The seat pattern indicates leather or vinyl (MB-TEX).
The price is great/acceptable / Even after shipping to you it probably will be fair.

Leather covers are double that cost easily.

I sought out MB-TEX for my 1983 300SD to replace the leather.
In my personal experience the MB-Tex lasted and wears better than leather.

99% of the W126 seats will be leather, and finding good ones in the color you want will be a challange.

Don`t know what this e-bay guy has, but shipping will be a few dollars, plus the cost of the seats.

Up grading to the later w126 seats won`t just be plug and play with the wiring. seems the later bodys got a litle more complicated than the early w126. some members have wired in the later seats, but will be pulling your air to get it all to work.

start checking the PNP Diy yards in your area for seats. i do see some nice ones from time to time. seats with electric tracks with them are around $55. manual seats like the W123 are around $30.

those seats do not look like later designs...
the seatbelt cutouts are not present in the rear center armrest, and the front seats have nets, not leather pouches...
I think these are from 81-84 vehicle.

Those look just like the seats in my 85, except mine don't have the rear headrests.

OK, maybe you win. Just from all the W126`s I have come across, all have been leather. I have not seen one with MB-Tex.

The only one I have seen, is the one in our front yard. we ordered new seat covers front and back, but with MB-Tex.

I've been in and out of a LOT of w126s in the junkyards, as well as the 2 I own.. never saw MBTex on any of them. Not saying it doesn't exist, just saying I've never seen it either.

Finding them is indeed a challenge. I'm getting ready to put two front seats in my 300SDL that I brought home from a 1991 560SEL that had nicer seats... and just to accentuate, they're the wrong interior color and they're STILL going to be better than the seats I'm using. So that's how hard it is to get hold of (affordably) decent ones.

My interior is sort of the light tan... I've never known if it was palomino or not but it's like tan mixed with beige... it's about to get front seats that are grayish. Even if somebody wanted to put it back "Right" someday, the ones I've got are so far gone they aren't even a starting point.

I'm in the same boat. In my 82, it appears it came with tex seats (at least the back bench is tex, came with a w123 seat), and I put the seats from my other SD in it. Problem is being palomino in a blue interior, although its not as ugly as one might think...If the OP is a junkyard fiend, finding seats is not that hard. There are always decent MBs in the junkyard I go to, just haven't gotten around to pulling them. $350 is a good price for a full good-condition interior already pulled, however I would think the shipping would make or break that offer. Those things are not lightweight and obviously quite large. Tex wears much better than the leather over the years, but there is something about the leather that is just really nice , there is also leatherique to repair minor imperfections.

Odd, Maybe I've never checked, but I always thought it was about 50/50 split. I have MB-Tex in my 126, and I haven't had any trouble finding new bits in MB-Tex. I'd say most of the gasser 126s are leather. It did take me a long time to find a rear back with head rests in Tex.

Try to do that with red seats!

Everyone that has interior other than red makes me jealous. I have seen one...again 1, 126 with red interior in the JY in 10 years of looking! Not that my seats are that bad, but if I did see some nice ones I would pay a mint for them.

Hmmm............Mine aren't MB Tex or Leather, they're velour. I've seen a few others in this area with the same but they are usually in worse shape than mine.

I put 420 sel seats in my 83300sd. So smart. 25$ per seat. They are leather, the driver's seat had the holes from sliding in and out of it for 150k miles.

I guess the awesomest thing to do would be to recover the 420 seats with the tex off of my 83 seats which is still whole and complete.

the grey leather matches so I just assume wear out the leather

In 126s with MBTex, the lines run all the way to the front of the seat. The ones with leather have a rectangularish area towards the front and sides of the seat.

In looking at many on ebay, craigslist, etc, I would say the majority were leather. If I had to stab at %, I would say 75 leather, 25 tex.

I put 89 SE seats into my SD. The back seats were simple, exact match. I had to swap bases on the front seats. The wiring needed to be tinkered with as well in order to make some functions work.

My 85SD has MBTex. I've nothing in good shape in a 126 but am considering a color change if I find something reasonable. Do a google for leather seat refurbish, color change etc. It looks labor intensive but possible. Perhaps that will be a summer project where I'll work a little as I have time.
