Original block-heater cords for $20?
Yup. I ordered one from the NAPA catalog, was in the next day. I have a commercial account/discount, so retail might be closer to $30, still pretty cheap and available everywhere.
It appears exactly like the original, 90* bend on the 3-pin soft red/brown rubber connector (2 pins plus ground contact), aluminum lock-ring to seal it, 3-prong plug.
The main differences I see are the lock-ring is hexagonal instead of knurled, and there isn't a cover for the plug end to keep it clean when unplugged. Other than that, I'd say it comes from the same tooliing/manufacturer as the original.
Last time I bought one it was from a Detroit Diesel dealer, I can't remember the price, but I believe that it was in a Zerostat bag. DD used the block heater on lots of engines (probably millions).
So no reason to buy the square-plug non-grounding version, if you have a NAPA dealer nearby order PN: 28216 block heater cord.
