Small rubber grommets on fenders in engine bay

I'm looking for the P/N (or numbers) that point/s to the small rubber grommets covering the tiny holes on the engine bay wheel arch area (both passenger and driver side).

In the image below you can see what I'm talking about - they're the tiny holes (some with a slit on the side) that are used to attach optional equipment to the inner fenders on our cars but for those w/o these extra equipment, MB uses the rubber plugs to cover them up. Mine are missing some and I would like to complete them. Has anybody done the same?

Thanks to CJ Brown for inspiration

Note the black dots on shiny passenger fender

Try this...

I think A 000 987 18 40 is the one (small gamble)

I've got 10 on order (don't know how many I really need). Cost here is 0.63 euro cents per piece excluding tax...

Send me your email address if you want some more rubber bung part numbers! (I tried to PM but the computer said no...)

MBeige, you've got a perfectly clean engine and engine bay, but you have a plastic oil cap. Where's the original?

Had to find something that wasn't quite right.

Hmm...I'm pretty sure I don't have those on my cars (anymore), but now I must go look. When did the plastic oil filler become standard on the w123? I thought it was 1983 but I don't know much. I'm pretty sure I have a spare metal oel cap sitting around somewhere if you want one.

FYI, I was able to salvage a nice white/yellowish washer fluid resevoir cap, but that's going on the wagon since the tab is broken on that one...

I was just eyeing those nice white ones on Peachparts yesterday. I did not realize mine was yellowed until I saw a picture of a white one.

You can post them here, I have a list to compare to but the images are very small so it's hard to tell. I don't want to order a bunch of P/N's from Germany through my parts guy only to find out they're not the right one.

Thanks, I have 2 "OEL" caps in storage. Just found this one had more grip so that's what I use.

Not sure if they became standard, W201 had plastic oil caps from beginning (thin handle). That was probably late '82 or '83. The oil cap on mine is what it had when I got the car.

Are these engine grommets the same as the one in US spec W123 rear fenders (where the bumper covers go)?

Maybe I can look real close and see if I can dig up P/N's on the remaining ones.

A 000 997 33 20 appears to be the plug between the driver side shock tower and brake m/c. Looks like you have that one already; it covers a bigger hole than the other three holes on the front side of the inner fender well.

So A 000 987 18 40 appears to be a smaller version and is where my money gets bet.

I didn't see any p/n's. Granted, the only plug on the wagon is the one near the shock tower/brake unit. The slotted holes on my wagon are covered in sheet metal from underneath...not sure why.

I would be curious to know which plugs fit the 240D passenger side fender, as all are missing on that car.

Thanks Matt, how much money are you betting on A 000 987 18 40? Just kidding, I'll see if my parts guy can get me a few to make it worthwhile. I'm only missing some, but would love to complete them.

I'm not sure by how much I've been trusted with the information I've been given. I'll ask my source if I may post it online... it is probably no big deal but I think it is polite to ask before doing so.

As it turns out, the ones used were P/N A 000 987 18 40.

I needed 5 for the driver fender, so that's how many I ordered. Some of the holes were threaded for equipment attachment points, but those w/o made good use of these plugs.

Looked at the passenger side after installing, and the plugs had the same conical "lock" as the original ones that were still there.

That's good to know - mine are waiting for me at the dealer - I just haven't gotten on my bike to go and get them yet! I'll go on Tuesday and then ask if it is OK to publish the info they sent me.
