I think this Air Filter had a little more life left..... (pic)

Have any of you seen a filter this dirty? Holly crap! I couldn't believe it when I pulled it out of the 87 TD I bought last month and pounded it on the ground. I've never seen so much dirt and sand fall out of a filter before. This is a quick pile a pulled together. There was still more in it I'm sure.

I was diagnosing a slow engine.......obviously it couldn't breath! The fuel filters were just as bad..... What a difference!!

Thought I would share...

Most impressive. What did the inside of the filter housing look like (how much got through/around and into the engine)? Wonder what else the PO didn't do.

He probably used the shop vac to get the first of the C##P out. We get 1/2 a bucket of dirt a day out of our earth moving equipments pre-filter cyclones.
If I am on site a lot in one of the MBs, the filter gets blown out with compressed air weekly.
If the wind is blowing towards the washing on the line when we do it, I am in the dog house for a month!!
We opened the jeeps air filter the other day, there was 1/4" of water in the bottom of it. Its got a snorkel, must have been the spray driving through the floods a few weeks ago.

None of that was with the shop vac - I swear! That was just from shaking and slapping it on the ground and sweeping it into a pile. The leaves were in the outside housing area. Surprisingly, the inside of the filter area was very clean. I don't think much passed through. These filter are huge and very impressive!!

I bought a new one and tossed the old....

If you're on an MB forum website after midnite on Saturday night, it would seem she has some spare time on her hands.

Ha! I have no Idea how people work sometimes; but was at the right level and smelled okay - Had records on Amsoil changes, glow plugs, alternator, fan blower, etc, not sure what happened to the air and fuel...??

.....but that was a nasty clogged filter!

If you bothered to look at whats in front of you, you would see that I'm in the uk . So while you sit at your computer typing bs after midnight, we're waking up to breakfast the next morning. But then you knew that, because you would'nt be stupid enough to miss the bit that say's "england" at the top of my posts would you?

Anyway, I apoligize to 1stbenznc, for hijacking his thread.

Hey carat,
I understand your frustrations, unfortunately you will be finding there are still people who think the world is flat & ends just off the coast of their country.
Some find it hard to understand they are living in yesterday compared to us. Basic planetary motion must have been beyond them at school.
If you post at other times of the day I find they are sleeping it off.
