1995 E300D fuel leak

1995 E300D fuel leak

started leaking slow and was not sure where leak was. Also at same period of time the car bucking a bit on first acceleration of the day. Perhaps air was getting into the lines?

But after a puddle under car I found leak. Is on top streaming out between the metal and plastic fitting.

The bolt was tight already-tightening it more is not solving problem.

Does anyone what is called so I can get a another one?

Thanks!

Can I assume the fuel filter is inside?

Might as well get that too.

Want to do Transmission fluid change as well as has not been done it in at least120K miles-probably never been done. I am being told to get the fluid from the Dealer direct as it is better?

No transmission problems-do I need to do flush and replace the filter?

I am also told that I should replace the fan Belt and the piston (strut) that connects in front of engine down to where belt is. Not sure what this is called? Seems to prevent vibration of the engine.

Thanks again for the help. I have already filled my cart with items.

You will find a fuel filter when you pull it out.

This is the fuel pre-filter. Make sure you remember to replace the o-ring here when you change it, if not the car will not start or cut out on you just after start.

the tensioner shock is a bit of a pain to replace, I wouldn't replace it yet unless it's obviously worn and making a lot of noise, same with the belt unless it's worn.

One or both orings at the fuel line/pre-filter are bad.

The pre-filter has an oring beneath its rim that is sold separately. The fuel line is also sealed with an oring.

If you've overtightened the bolt holding the fuel line clamp you may have deformed it. It is slightly crimped to aid in providing downward pressure on the line and pre-filter.

Pre-filters rarely go bad. It is just a wire mesh filter and can be rinsed and cleaned. Orings are usually the culprit.

Also, replace the main fuel filter if you do not know when it was done last. Fill it with diesel before you fasten it in place to quicken the bleed process. You know it is a self-bleeding system- just crank until it runs. If it doesn't start after 30 seconds or so, stop for a minute (to spare battery and starter) and try again.

Transmission fluid does not need to come from the dealer- just buy the correct spec fluid. Replace the filter and pan gasket. Remember there is a plug on the torque converter that needs to be opened to completely drain the trans fluid. The operative word here is "drain"- the transmission is NOT flushed.

Thanks

I have found all the parts on this site I need save for:

Main fuel filter

Belt tensioner

(have not been able to find these in the parts section)

I did not over-tighten the bolt for the pre-filter. I took it off and lifted the plastic off the metal and fuel leaked up and out. You would think Gravity would prevent this...

So I will get the oring seal and replace the prefilter as well.

I think this is all I need (in terms of seals)?

Im getting below so far:

Fuel Filter Pre-filter
use With (1) 601 997 01 48 Pre-filter Seal Ring.;pre-filter FEBI W0133-1640591 $0.00$4.20$4.20

Fuel Filter Seal OES GENUINE W0133-1643308 $0.00$1.47$1.47

At Filter Kit
consists Of (1) 126 277 02 95 Transmission Filter And (1) 201 271 03 80 Transmission Pan Gasket With Seal Ring.
W0133-1630471 $0.00$31.22$31.22

Antenna Seal - Upper HIRSCHMANN W0133-1639508 $0.00$3.60$3.60

Multi Rib Belt CONTITECH W0133-1626741 $0.00$36.44$36.44

Auto Trans Fluid 1 Liter - Mercedes Benz - 1 Liter
designed For Mercedes Benz Automobiles.;1 Liter FEBI W0133-1637687 $0.00$13.66$13.66

Have to find out how many liters of AT fluid I Need...

Thanks to all!

6 litres of ATF for this transmission if the specs I have are correct...

How are your engine mounts btw? If the car shakes at shut down then they could do with replacing, easy to do and make a big difference.

Thanks again.

When i push down with my hand hard on the 'belt tensioner' the engine does run quieter.

This is probably something I don't Need to do right now.

If anyone knows what the part # is for the Main Fuel filter and belt tensioner I will place order.

Thanks again

Thanks guys!

Did the change but it is the smaller Oring that connects between the 2 plastic pieces. (goes around the plug that fits into the pre-filter.

Anyone know the name?

I replaced the one between the pre-filter and the metal reservoir and discovered that is not where the leak was coming from.

Yes it is the fuel line seal after all.

Anyone have a part #?
