300SD Fuel Level Sender

I have to pull my fuel level sender and fix it. I have to special order the socket to remove it as none of the stores in my little town have one big enough.

If one of you guys have done this job before can you please confirm that I need a 46mm or 1 13/16" socket to do the job. I don't want to order the wrong one!

Thank you.

Agreed. Very large slip joint pliers/channel locks may be a more useful tool than a limited use 46 mm socket.

But if you've got a Northern Tool local, the socket is pretty cheap, too. An issue with the socket may be that the face has tapers and may need to be ground down. Search for some threads on cleaning the strainer in W123s and you should see what I mean. And you'll probably also need a 3/4" drive or adapter.

The sender is not torqued in very tight and pliers/channel locks (depending on local description) should suffice.

It is also worth noting that this socket (in my case 1 13/16") is also used on the fuel strainer as well.

Also, there is an O-ring for the sender that would need to be replaced if hard and brittle.
