So you remove the whole unit. VW / Audi / Volvo units are a simple relay looking device with a speaker on the top. Yes it has a lot of pins on it. But if you hook the right ones up to power and ground it will chime.

Here's what the VW ones look like, and where they're located. Audi ones are interchangeable, they go Ding Ding Ding instead of the 3 tone VW one.

As I said, a modern S class does not have a discrete dinger. It's probably built into the instrument cluster and is not removable.

Shoot. I was rather fond of that chime. I'll have to see what else I can find that is a standalone unit. I know 70's and 80's Caddy's have that chime that sounds like you're on a game show.
