722.303 transmission pressure at 125 psi, banging into 1st & 2nd gear
Hi guys,
I just purchased a 82 300SD and have a transmission that is banging into 1st & 2nd gear. I unfortunately do not have any way to contact the previous owner to see what has been done (or not done) to the car. There has been quite a lot of delayed maintenance that I've been doing. I've found and repaired: * Vacuum leaks * Incorrectly routed vacuum lines * An AT modulator that won't hold vacuum When pulling the AT modulator to replace it: * The oil was red with no burnt smell * The oil was clean with no particles, shavings, etc * The "Cleanliness is next go Godliness" maxim was followed when replacing the modulator With the car up on ramps & in park, the transmission operating pressure was checked: * 125 PSI (8.5 bar) * I was expecting to be able to adjust it to 42 psi (2.9 bar) However, it's outputting 125 PSI & I was only able to adjust it down to 120 PSI with the modulator. Any ideas on how to proceed/possible problems? Thanks & Best Regards, Jon

did you test/adjust the vacuum control valve on the injection pump? it controls (bleeds) vacuum to the modulator. i'm sure someone can chime in here.
