Lubricate new speedometer cable?

Hi,

Just got a new speedometer cable from Phil. The One on my 82 would whine loudly in the cold and is very bend-conscious for how well it works.

Got the new one, and have speedometer-specific cable lube. Do I lube the new one or just assume it is corect from the factory? Thebag doesn't instruct....

Thanks!

Stick it in and use it. the cable doesn`t slide out of the sheath, they are a sealed unit.

I have pulled several from PNP for spares, and replaced the one in the 85 a couple times. don`t remember any of them coming apart.

I know it doesn't come apart - there is some pullout/play in the cable. It is possible to pull out the shaft maybe 1/4-1/2", put lube on, then slide it back in. Do this a few times and the lube creeps into the sheath...

I got my new cable from Phil last year.

You do not need to lube the cable. BUT, it does "say in the instructions" to grease the ends of the cable. I used just a tad of that SuperLube clear synthetic grease.

I have had no issues or problems with it.

I put no lube on my 240D speedo cable when I installed it in 2005. Still works quietly.

If you do want to lube it I've had luck holding one end higher than the other they spraying in a little lube, then twist the cable a bunch. Do it a few times. This will work it down the cable.
