Thanks for all the info. I'm in the process of rebuilding the 617 now. I think the big problem will be the oil filter. it will hit one of the braces in the engine compartment I could make it a remote oil filter to get around that...

Before you design a remote oil filter be sure to read chapter 18-005 in the FSM. You'll then realise that the filter and the filter housing is a bit more complicated than most engines with just a spin on / off filter. If you can't get hold of the FSM - think again! You'll need it for your engine rebuild - but there is lots of information about the filter housing in this thread:- http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/297630-will-i-still-get-filtered-oil-if-i-block-off-my-oil-cooler-lines-ports-post2702992.html

The OM 617 and OM 617A diesel engines swap
Quote:
1968-1976. The OM 617A turbodiesel engine was available in the 123 body. 1977-? Is it possible to put the OM 617 A turbodiesel in the 115 body with the 4 speed manual [or 5 speed manual] transmission. Is there enough room in the engine compartment for all the add ons? Is there anyone with a different opinion-having actually put the OM 617A in a 115 body? Or any other turbodiesel engine in the 115 body? Like the 2.5 turbodiesel engine in the 124 bodies. |
